Ten poets' quatrain of the late Tang Dynasty is an ancient poetry collection compiled by Ji Guan,which specially chooses seven-character quatrain in the late Tang Dynasty.The features of it not only exist in Ji Guan' identity,a Japanese sinologist,but also exist in the backgrounds and characteristics of the anthology.The thesis regards Ten poets' quatrain of the late Tang Dynasty as the research object,and chooses five dimensions to analyze the anthology: compilation's status and sources,compilation's characteristics,compilation's backgrounds and motivations,the art features of Ji Guan's seven-character quatrain,compilation's meaning.The followings are specific key points of every chapter.The first chapter introduces the compilation's status and sources of Ten poets' quatrain of the late Tang Dynasty: as an excellent Chinese poetry poet in the late Edo Age,compiling quatrain of middle and late Tang dynasty is his prominent literature contributions.Especially,Ten poets' quatrain of the late Tang Dynasty based on The Whole Tang Poetry has unique status in Ji Guan's compilation activity,which is firstly published,firstly presents the intention of Ji Guan's compilation and shows the excellent literary grace.The second chapter analyzes the anthology's characteristics: In genre,the anthology specially chooses seven-character quatrain,which is related with the following factors.The accepting range of seven-character quatrain has been extended since the Ping'an dynasty and the art of seven-character quatrain has gradually matured.In chosen poets,Mu Du,Guimeng Lu,Zhuang Wei are paid more attention to.At the same time,the seven-character quatrain of the ten poets is universally characterized by pure fresh and natural.In subject matter,poetry of describing scenery,describing objects and recalling antiquity are emphasized.Generally speaking,most chosen poetry don't have a vast horizon.They tend to show the exquisite features.In art style,on the one hand,most poetry express sad and sorrow emotions in the euphemism and implicit way.On the other hand,they present pure fresh and natural style in color collocation,scenery layout and language style.The third chapter explores the compilation's backgrounds and motivations: the emergency of Ten poets' quatrain of the late Tang Dynasty not only relies on Japan's long and deep accepting tradition of Tang poetry,but also has link with the poetic background at that time,the transition from emulating Tang poetry of Xuanyuanfaction to emulating Song poetry of Pure fresh and Spiritual faction.What's more,Ji Guan's personal factors constitute the direct motivations of the anthology's compilation,including his deep accepting background of the late Tang poetry,finding the aesthetic values and poetic history values of the late Tang poetry,the poetry learning ambition of coupling Tang and Song poetry accompanying with the core of emulating Tang poetry.The fourth chapter analyzes the art features of Ji Guan's seven-character quatrain in Liuwan's Singing in Fishing: In subject matter,it's describing scenery that is the most obvious in the anthology.The next is respectively daily life performance,describing objects,social intercourse and response.In art style,Ji Guan's seven-character quatrain forms distinct style of quietly elegant and peaceful,sincere and natural.From the whole perspective,for one hand,Ji Guan's seven-character quatrain has the similar characteristic with Ten poets' quatrain of the late Tang Dynasty.For another,those poetry manifest his individual aesthetic taste.The fifth chapter summarizes the compilation meaning of Ten poets' quatrain of the late Tang Dynasty: Firstly,it has an influence on the genre,subject matter and style of Ji Guan's seven-character quatrain.Secondly,the anthology extends and enriches Tang poetry's accepting,especially seven-character quatrain of the late Tang poetry in Japan.Also,it manifests the distinctive feature in learning Chinese poetry of the late Edo Age,which traverses Tang and Song,and has a vaster horizon on Chinese poetry learning.Lastly,as a literature activity,the compilation is an epitome of cultural communication between China and Japan in the late Edo Age.And it is the screening and condensation of Ji Guan's appreciating towards the late Tang poetry from the perspective of Japanese culturally aesthetic tradition.What's more,it reflects the pursuit of independence when Japanese are learning and accepting Chinese culture in the late Edo Age.
