How do several ordinary and unrelated photographs come together to create a nar rative? How do these photos make for a photography book? How did these photograp hy books have an important impact on the history of photography?In this paper,several important photography books in the history of American ph otography are selected to discuss these issues.Among them is Walker Evans' s landmar k photography book,American Photography;The first popular photography book with immediate imitators,William Klein's New York;The album of pioneers of colour phot ography,Stephen Shore and William Eggleston;And what is known as the contempor ary photographic book-making machine,is also the "hot" photographer Alec Soth's alb um.The reasons for choosing these books are as follows: firstly,there is a certain in heritance relationship between their editing techniques;secondly,the authors all attach great importance to the presentation of their works as photography books;thirthly,the se books have produced many imitators and researchers,and are recognized as importa nt photography books.This paper will specifically analyze their content,form and historical background,and discuss the inheritance relationship between the editing techniques and narrative methods of these books.The characteristics of each era,change and development;Andthe spirit of a country at different times.The last chapter will summarize the characteristics of photo editing techniques in photography books,discuss the influence and inspiration of these photography books o n the current production of photography books,discuss the changes of photography bo oks in the digital age,and look into the future development of photography books.
