Anthony Caro - Towards Open Sculpture

From the time of prehistoric sculpture,sculpture existed as a mass and developed in a closed space.But with the emergence of modernism,sculpture has gradually become independent,no longer attached to other things,sculpture space is no longer closed,in the form of an open nature.Antony Caro's metal sculpture is one such open ended sculpture.Throughout Caro's entire career,Caro was deeply influenced by Henry Moore's ideas,not just by the surface of the sculpture,but by Moore's attitude toward it,for the first time,Caro believed that sculpture should not be confined to history.In contrast to Caro's and Moore's sculptures,this article looks at how Caro's work has opened up,as an example,Caro explores space,material,size,and human experience on the basis of Moore's work.The space of Caro's sculpture leaves the base and opens up.
