A Harmonious World Where Reality And Ideals Are Intertwined

Zhang Zhilu has played a crucial role in the field of fiction and film for the Chinese children's literature.His realistic children's novels not only bravely show the social reality,but also deeply write the childhood memories down under the grand history.Regarding his children's science fictions,the author has deeply pondered over modern science and technology,also demonstrated how human nature is alienated by science and technology,and how it returns,through the simple but profound adolescent adventure stories.Then,what makes Zhang Zhilu 's works have such unfading vitality? By understanding Zhang Zhilu 's novels comprehensively and combining diverse literary theories,such as,thematology,narratology,and social and historical criticism,this paper explores the differences between Zhang Zhilu and other children's literature authors.Zhang Zhilu 's novels can be divided into two categories: reality theme,and science fiction theme.The first chapter of this paper starts from Zhang Zhilu 's reality theme novels to analyse his writing theme.This theme is presented from three aspects.Firstly,Zhang Zhilu has the courage to describe the realistic side of children's life,which belongs to the‘father-love' type of motif,also has positive implications to encourage children to face the reality bravely.He does not steer clear of the truth of children's life,but boldly discusses the many life problems that children encounter in the process of growing up.Secondly,Zhang Zhilu writes the pureness and clearness of childlike innocence through scrupulous observations towards children's life,and highlights all kinds of practical problems that children face in the process of growing up through descriptions of the adult world.Thirdly,in his reminiscence novels,Zhang Zhilu restores the social history of the special period through the vision of children,with a sense of historical reality,and records the precious memories belonging to Jixiang 's generation.The second chapter analyses Zhang Zhilu 's fantasy works from three theme features: the scientificity of fantasy,the children's nature of fantasy,and the humanity of fantasy.Zhang Zhilu 's fantasy novels are theoretically and practically founded,which is related to his former work of a physics teacher.In his fantasy novels,he conducts the artistic creation drawing on the events in real life and the living status of children,which could be deemed as a combination of science and literature.Zhang Zhilu 's fantasy is full of childlike interest.He is well aware of the psychological needs of children,so to write meaningful and interesting novels from the perspective of children,which also could be considered as an embodiment of respect for children.Meanwhile,Zhang Zhilu can think deeply about the alienation brought by science and technology and call for the return of human nature,which shows his foreseeable doubts of science and technology.Despite his works are written for children,Zhang Zhilu is able to narrate his thoughts on modern technology in a light and entertaining way.In addition,Zhang Zhilu 's respect and passion for traditional culture is also reflected in his science fictions.The third chapter finds the commonness and characteristics from the comparison between Zhang Zhilu 's realistic fictions and science fictions,and discusses the theme narrative mode of combining the virtual and the real in his novels.In the integration and contrast of reality and fantasy,the theme of his creation shows a "simple taste" and "astringent taste".It seems to be a "simple" connection between reality and fantasy,but it often contains a theme of "deep astringency".Such a theme also affects the character shaping,so to influent the people,such as Ji Xiang in reality to have the illusion,and the people,such as Beibei,in the imaginary to have the reality.Finally,Zhang Zhilu 's novel text and film on the integration of narrative perspective and their achievement of renovation make his creation of children's literature in the interweaving of reality and fantasy more consistent and integrated.
