A Study Of Translation Of Sports Texts From The Perspective Of Text Type Theory

With the rapid development of economic globalization,the development of international sports has become more and more prosperous,and the development of China’s sports industry has also become more and more prosperous.As a part of the sports industry and the national economy,the sports industry not only promotes the physical fitness of the people,but also makes due contributions to the development of the national economy and the enhancement of international influence.China is also increasingly participating in international sports events.There were the2008 Beijing Olympic Games held by the whole nation,the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games,the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games,the 2019 Wuhan Military Games and the upcoming 2021 Chengdu World University Games hosted by local government.^[1].The holding of these events shows that the Chinese government and various local governments have favored holding international sports events.This paper selects the English-Chinese version of the official guidance document of the Chengdu World University Games"Minimum Requirements"of the International University Sports Federation,and the translation of words,sentences,and the interconnections between different chapters as the research object.From the perspective of the text typology,the Chinese translation version of"Minimum Requirements"was studied using the literature review method,case analysis method,and person interview method^[2].The author found that in this manual,the International University Sports Federation has a set of original English abbreviations for all instructional manuals of the Summer World University Games,and they are used very frequently in various texts of the Summer World University Games.At the same time,the author found that due to insufficient translation time After Chengdu obtained the right to host the event,within one week,the Chinese translation version of this document was required to be used by the organizing committee for reference,leaving the translators with insufficient time to think about the words and it is obvious the we can see the traces of machine translation;on the other hand,The translation of some professional terms in sports is not very accurate,and my unfamiliarity with sports terminology leads to improper use of words in the translation;furthermore,due to subjective and objective reasons,there are some mistranslations and omissions in the Chinese translation.Because it was a translation project completed by the team,there was not enough time to proofread the consistency of the same word in each chapter after translation,and there appeared different Chinese expressions for the same word with the same meaning in the same document.In response to the above three issues,the author pointed out that for the various English abbreviations specified in the Minimum Requirements,relevant expression vocabulary needs to be used in subsequent preparations and translation and reporting during the competition;the translation team and translators are completing When translating a comprehensive competition guide or manual,you need to assign tasks according to the translator’s own translation direction and advantages,and try to provide the translator with more suitable tasks;when using machine translation,pay attention to combining normal Chinese expressions to avoid The translation caused by machine translation is blunt and obscure,making it difficult for readers to understand its meaning;because it is a comprehensive competition manual with multiple chapters,different chapters will present different text forms for the introduction of the content,but the basic content that you want to express.They are a series of methods and operating guidelines stipulated around the development of sports events.Therefore,after each chapter is translated,the translator team needs to unify and integrate the translation words in order to realize the unity and practicality of the manual;for comprehensive international sports events,there are also long preparations,large translations and complex projects.,It is necessary for the Organizing Committee’s External Relations Department to arrange various translation tasks at the beginning,such as the entry of translation experts into various working groups,the integration and external training of sports terminology,the recruitment and training of translators,etc.^[3]Therefore,how to complete the translation of such comprehensive event manuals in a short time and with high quality has become a problem for the author;since translation involves sports terminology,domestic sports English majors are also developing rapidly,but there are still many shortcomings.It is also necessary to improve the school curriculum and social environment to promote the development of sports and cultivate sports English professionals^[4].In the process of the event,the translation of these important documents not only provides an auxiliary reference for the various businesses and functional departments during the preparation to the game and after the game,but also for whether the athletes have achieved excellent competition results and whether the competition is successfully held.They are all closely linked,and on the other hand,it also directly shows the image and comprehensive influence of this country and region and the city^[5].
