A Contemporary Transformation Of Watermark Printmaking

This paper takes watermark prints as the main research object,and explores how they developed from traditional woodblock watermarks to contemporary watermark prints.During this period,a series of processes are profound and complex,with inheritance and innovation.The watermark prints presented to us today have been endowed with new forms and meanings.This paper discusses how watermark prints are transformed from traditional forms to contemporary ones from four aspects.The first part traces the historical origin and artistic value of watermark printmaking.By combing the historical context and analyzing the artistic value of watermark printmaking,its intention is not limited to memory.These histories have obvious brand of the times.It also lays a foundation for the better development of traditional watermark prints in the contemporary context of later generations.In the second part,due to the plural characteristics of printmaking,traditional woodcut printmaking has become an important way of image communication and cultural exchange,which is its advantage and biggest limitation.In the contemporary context,in order to better develop watermark prints,we need to find more contemporary watermark features to inject into the traditional watermark prints.The author will analyze and study the new characteristics of watermark prints one by one,and inject vitality into the times.The third part,combining tradition with modernity,explores the process of "modern metamorphosis" of watermark woodcut.The beauty of traditional art is profound and has lasting appeal,but the times are constantly improving.How to keep prints from being submerged in the tide of the times must keep pace with the times.The fourth part,through the author's own creative experience,discusses the new techniques,new forms and profound feelings and understandings of printmaking.
