There are many kinds of clues in space.How to use these clues in the process of navigation has always been the focus of space localization research.In recent years,the studies on reorientation mainly focus on visual environmental cues,especially the interaction between geometric cues and feature cues.There are few studies on the use of nonvisual cues(auditory,haptic,and proprioceptive cues).Some auditory-based reorientation studies have found that humans can use auditory feature cues and auditory geometric cues for reorientation.However,the interaction between auditory feature cues and auditory geometric cues,as well as the interaction between visual feature cues and auditory feature cues are still unclear,so this study was conducted.In Experiment 1,auditory feature cues and auditory geometric cues were combined into five different conditions: combined-cue,auditory feature-only,auditory geometry-only,controlcondition,cue conflict.The interaction mechanism between auditory feature cues and auditory geometry cues was explored by comparing the behavioral performance of the participants under different conditions.The results showed that geometric cues and feature cues are integrated when both of them are available,improve precision of reorientation.When they are conflict,humans prefer to use feature cues.On the basis of Experiment 1,Experiment 2 combined visual feature cues and auditory feature cues.The interaction mechanism between visual feature cues and auditory feature cues was explored by comparing the behavioral performance of the participants under five kinds of cue conditions.The results showed that visual feature cues and auditory feature cues are not integrated when both of them are available,the precision of visual reorientation was better than auditory reorientation.When they are conflict,humans prefer to use auditory features cues.In conclusion,this study confirms that auditory feature cues and auditory geometric cues encoded by adaptive combination,and exploring the interaction between visual and auditory feature cues creatively,can help develop navigation strategies and tools,improve the accuracy of localization.
