Maurice Ravel(1875-1937)is a famous French Impressionist composer. He created the orchestral version of the Great Waltz in 1919 and adapted it to the piano version since 1920.It was originally in memory of John Strauss.Later, after the outbreak of World War I and the death of his mother,Ravel suffered from physical discomfort and completed the writing of "the Great Waltz" in 1920.This is a work with warning significance, switching the cruel war and beautiful dance picture back and forth, sometimes sweet and sometimes painful. With the continuous advancement of music, music has reached its climax, and all the restless factors have been released until it is destroyed.Ravel’s technique of musical expression creates different musical images and gives music different colors. His representative trilogy brings rich and colorful sound effects to the dance. In this paper,I will study and discuss from four aspects: the background of creation, the analysis of musical form, the technique of musical expression and the performance analysis of trilogy.
