Pragmatic Identity Construction In Doctor-patient Interaction From The Perspective Of Impoliteness

This thesis combines Culpeper's impoliteness strategies with core idea of Chen's pragmatic identity theory,taking the real doctor-patient interaction as the corpus to analyze the process of constructing pragmatic identity.The results show that communicators mainly construct the following three kinds of pragmatic identities through impolite utterance,namely,power identity,interpersonal identity and emotional identity.The impoliteness strategies presented by communicators include direct impoliteness strategies,positive impoliteness strategies and negative impoliteness strategies.In terms of theory,this thesis can enrich the study of pragmatic identity and impoliteness strategy.In practice,this thesis can help doctors and patients reduce and avoid conflicts in verbal communication,improve to form harmonious doctor-patient relationship and promote social harmony.
