Princess Taiping And The Political Situation In The Early Tang Dynasty

Princess Taiping,the daughter of Emperor Gaozong and Empress Wu,has enjoyed treatment beyond the conventional ritual system since birth.His career experienced five emperors,Gaozong,Wu Zetian,Zhongzong,Ruizong and Xuanzong,and played an important role in the political development of the early Tang Dynasty.During the period of Emperor Gaozong and Empress Wu,the status of Princess Taiping was prominent.During this period,Princess Taiping began to contact politics,but her influence on politics was limited;During the Zhongzong period,Princess Taiping continued the political treatment of Wu Zetian period,became an important political force in the Zhongzong period and influenced the political trend.At the end of the Zhongzong period,Princess Taiping and Li Longji jointly launched the Tang Long coup,which eliminated the empress Wei's forces and absorbed the remaining Wu's forces;During the reign of Ruizong,the influence of Princess Taiping further developed and had a certain voice in military and political affairs and the promotion,appointment and removal of officials;During the Xuanzong period,Princess Taiping was killed in the congenital coup.Xuanzong launched political cleansing,and the influence of Princess Taiping on the political situation ended.By studying the problems between Princess Taiping and the political situation in the early Tang Dynasty,and comparing the political trend,character factions and system changes in different periods,it is found that Princess Taiping played an important role in the political situation changes in this period.First,Princess Taiping participated in the Shenlong coup and Tanglong coup,helped Zhongzong and Ruizong ascend the throne and promoted the development of the current situation;Second,the development of Princess Taiping's influence involves the leftover problems of Wu and Zhou dynasties,such as Li Wu's regime,the participation of the harem in politics,political groups,worship of Buddha and so on.In the development of Taiping Princess group,the problems left over by Wu and Zhou dynasties gradually evolved into the struggle between Taiping Princess forces and Li Longji forces.After Princess Taiping was killed,Li Longji made a targeted arrangement on this issue,which changed this situation.
