A Comparative Study On The Performance Characteristics Of Modern Peking Opera And Musical Theatr

Chinese opera art,ancient Greek drama and ancient Indian drama are three pillars,and they are the three oldest drama styles in the world.The art of opera is rooted in my country's long historical tradition,nurtured in Chinese classical philosophy and culture,and carries the spiritual blood of the Chinese people.Modern Peking Opera is in the same line as traditional Peking Opera,but it has carried out artistic innovation on traditional Peking Opera with a single plot conflict,stereotyped characters,popular poetic lyrics,and innovative musical arrangement,which has shortened the distance between Peking Opera and the masses.Musical is a comprehensive stage performance art that integrates music,dance and lines.It was born in the United States,developed in the United Kingdom,and then spread to Europe and the world.Today,with its strong expressiveness,modernity and fashion sense,it has become a performing art that has swept the world and is deeply loved by audiences all over the world.Although modern Peking Opera and musicals have many performance elements,the stage presentation must be based on performance.That is,through music,dance,script and other means to shape the image of characters,promote the development of the story,and achieve the purpose of the drama.Therefore,the author intends to select the two classic plays of the modern Peking Opera "The Rhododendron Mountain" and the musical "Les Miserables",focusing on the two aspects of singing(music image)and acting(dramatic image),that is,the characteristics of performance.compare research.Starting from the artistic essence and aesthetic characteristics of musicals and modern Peking Opera,standing on the basis of equal dialogue,we explore the similarities and differences between Chinese and Western drama arts in different contexts.This article starts from the perspective of strengthening cultural awareness and vigorously developing national art and actively responding to the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's speech "telling Chinese stories,disseminating Chinese voices,elucidating Chinese spirit,and showing Chinese style".The reference and creativity of Peking Opera to Chinese original musicals seeks and provides more possibilities for the formation and establishment of Chinese original musicals with their unique cultural identity and performance style.
