Research On Bai Juyi's Flower Poetry

Flowers,as early as "The Book of Songs" has frequently appeared.Since the Six Dynasties,it has become an important image type in ancient Chinese literature because its popularity among poets.As a poet of Tang Dynasty who has the most poems,Bai Juyi showed a strong love for flowers,and nearly one third of his poems were about flowers or related images.This paper takes Bai Juyi's flower poems as the object to explore the characteristics and causes of Bai Juyi's flower poems as well as their influence on later poets' flower creation.In terms of quantity,Bai wrote more than a thousand flower poems in his lifetime,among which the poems about flowers accounted for nearly a quarter,which was not only unprecedented,but also rare in the late Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty.These large number of flower poems run through his whole writing career and show the trend of synchronizing changes with his life experiences and thoughts.In short,Bai Juyi's flower poetry writing period can be divided into four periods: foundation period,transformation period,sawing period and leisure period.The reasons for the formation of the above characteristics can be roughly explored from two perspectives: the atmosphere of the times and the interests and hobbies promoted by his life experience.To sum up,the social atmosphere of flower appreciation,private garden construction and drinking and writing poems among flowers,the development of a series of industries related to flowers,the hobby of planting and playing with flowers,the innate feeling of self-sorrow and the acquired feeling of self-comfort,all of which have stimulated Bai Juyi's passion for flower poetry creation.Bai Juyi not only created a large number of poems for a long time,but also had a complex theme orientation and theme expression.In terms of the ideological theme,Bai Juyi's flower poems can be roughly divided into three kinds:chanting poems,Bixing??poems and the poetry of depicting scenery.Among them,the chanting poems and Bixing poems can best reflect the role of flowers in the poetry.In terms of subject matter selection,Bai Juyi's flower poems tend to choose the common flowers in daily life,but they can also explore new meaning and carry forward in these daily flowers,which is most obvious in pine bamboo,fallen flowers,willow and simple and elegant flowers.In addition,the artistic features reflected in flower poems are helpful for us to have a comprehensive understanding of the style of Bai poems.People often regard Bai's poems as"light?"and"vulgar?"without thinking,but in the case of Bai's flower poems,this is not the case.In terms of artistic technique,white poems take prose as poems,and in terms of artistic style,white poems are also"plain and simple??"and"old and familiar??","otherwise,it is hard to imagine how Bai's poems can compete with Han Yu's poems for the third place in Tang poems.As the core of flower poetry,pomes on flowers can outline the territory and reflect the status and influence of Bai Juyi's flower poetry.Compared with the poets before,after and at the same time,we can see that Bai Juyi's flower poems,especially his pomes on flowers,have a lot of reference for the predecessors,but also be learned from poets of the later Tang Dynasty and Northern Song Dynasty.In fact,it reflects the unique role of the poets in the middle and tang dynasty in the transformation from the"tang tone??"to the"song tone??"in the history of poetry.
