In the late Republic of China, paper media is an important carrier for the dissemination of drama. The comprehensive drama periodical Bi-Weekly Magazine, created by Shanghai newspaperman Zheng Zibao, was published in the same time as the rising Shaoxing Opera. The historical facts between the editorial staff and the Shaoxing Opera and the many relevant contents of the journal provide a new perspective for the study of the development of Shaoxing Opera in the late Republic of China, and make it possible to improve the research results of predecessors. This paper mainly expands from the following aspects:The first chapter explores the release process of Bi-Weekly Magazine and the relevant content of Shaoxing Opera.Bi-Weekly Magazine has been published for a long time, and its editor-in-chief has a complex identity and extensive communication. Most of the editorial staff are cultural figures from all walks of life, who once praised the female artists of the Shaoxing Opera and provided support and help for the activities of the Shaoxing Opera in the late Republic of China. The content of Shaoxing Opera in the journal is divided into articles, photos and advertisements, which is very enlightening to explore the classification of drama types, innovation activities, paper media communication and artistic characteristics of Shaoxing Opera at that time. The second chapter discusses the definition of "Shaoxing Opera" in the late Republic of China through the article of Shaoxing Opera in Bi-Weekly Magazine." Shaoxing Opera" under the name of the high-profile,Shaoxing Big Class,Shengxian Class,Shaoxing Literary Opera and other plays. Therefore,we can reflect that it is convenient to classify operas based on the activity region, but the differences in tone or music between operas are eliminated, which aggravates the rigidity of research thinking and is not conducive to an objective understanding of the problem of Shaoxing Opera. The third chapter discusses the debate about the status of Yao Shuijuan and Yuan Xuefen, the innovator of Shaoxing Opera, through the articles of Shaoxing Opera contained in Bi-Weekly Magazine.Because the criteria for judging innovation vary from person to person, the debate is hard to win.Compared with the "silent" Yao Shuijuan,Yuan Xuefen holds the discourse right of newspapers and periodicals and puts forward the reform proposition of Shaoxing Opera in person,so she has more advantages in the debate. The fourth chapter, taking Bi-Weekly Magazine as a starting point, compares the similarities and differences between Shaoxing Opera,Kunqu Opera and Peking Opera in the late Republic of China,as well as the significance of Shaoxing Opera in its own history.Shaoxing Opera is closely separated from Kunqu Opera and Peking Opera, and finally forms its own unique style. The rise of Shaoxing Opera in the late Republic of China is the common result of both historical inevitability and chance, and the law embodied in its artistic development still has far-reaching influence on the development of Shaoxing Opera after the founding of the People's Republic of China. The fifth chapter analyzes the time span of the relevant contents of Shaoxing Opera in BiWeekly Magazine, and reflects on the status of the paper media of Shaoxing Opera in the late Republic of China based on the conclusions of predecessors. There is no objective connection between the prosperity of Shaoxing Opera and the prosperity of the special publication of Shaoxing Opera.Affected by many factors, there are fewer researchable articles in the specialized newspapers and other newspapers of Shaoxing Opera. The distribution process of the two kinds of journals is rather bumpy, but together they show the brilliant course of Shaoxing Opera in the late Republic of China.
