| Ta Kung Pao,as the only Chinese newspaper that was published in the late Qing Dynasty and has been issued up to now,has published a lot of opera materials,faithfully recording and witnessing the development of opera in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China,especially the reports on the improvement of opera in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China,as well as the thoughts and practices of opera reform,which is of great research value.So to "Ta Kung Pao: 1902-1949" database of opera in the early days of data in the Late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China as the research object,the press and the development of opera is necessary to study the combined,can not only from the angle of the newspapers and combing the skeleton of in the Late Qing Dynasty in the early opera development,deepen the study of history of late Qing dynasty in the early drama,still can add new content for the early years of the late Qing dynasty drama research.This paper is titled "Study on the Opera Materials of Ta Kung Pao in the Late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China".The main content is divided into three parts:The first part is an overview of the opera materials published in Ta Kung Pao.Based on the appearance time of drama supplement column,this paper divides the opera Materials of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China into the period when opera information appeared occasionally and the period when the supplement column appeared.From the perspective of the development cycle of Ta Kung Pao,the information of opera published in Ta Kung Pao,which occasionally presented the information of opera,was mainly based on news and closely related to current affairs.In 1922,new changes appeared in the publication of opera materials,and the appearance of opera columns in the supplement meant that Ta Kung Pao raised the attention to opera at that time.The second part is to see the change of opera thoughts in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China from Ta Kung Pao.Since the late Qing Dynasty,the development of Chinese opera has been closely related to the situation at home and abroad.Enlightening the common people and saving the nation are not only the themes of The Times,but also the impetus of the development of Chinese opera.Combined with the development of Ta Kung Pao,the development of opera thought in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China can be divided into two stages.In the first stage,the late Qing Dynasty drama reform movement hoped to spread new ideas through the new civilized drama,thus enlightening the people’s wisdom and maintaining social decency.In the second stage,the radical intellectuals during the May 4th New Culture Movement hoped to seek a new direction for the development of opera and even the enlightenment of thought through the refusal of opera.However,the reformers and conservatives began to debate with them,affirming the value and significance of Chinese opera,and disagreeing with the radical’s criticism of Chinese opera.After the upsurge of the May 4th" New Culture Movement subsided,opera workers achieved another breakthrough and new changes in the summary and reflection of the earlier period.The school of "national drama movement" tries to create a new style of drama,"national opera",starting from the aesthetic characteristics of Chinese opera and from the sorting out and using old operas.The third part focuses on the compilation and performance of operas in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China from Ta Kung Pao.In the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China,the opera compilation and performance was also under the political theme of saving the nation from subversion and reviving the nation.From the perspective of practice,the historical materials of opera compilation published in Ta Kung Pao witnessed the influence of opera improvement thought on the development of opera.The improvement movement of opera gave birth to new operas,which were welcomed by the audience in a certain period of time.However,as a tool to enlighten the people and promote social development,it has a strong purpose and lacks artistry.Therefore,after the upsurge of reform movement,it was soon replaced by a new form.In the early Republic of China,the famous performers and their creative groups started the work of editing and performing old dramas and new dramas on the basis of summing up the practical experience of early stage opera improvement and combining with the development of opera thoughts at that time.Their opera create and stage performances practice showed the changes in the theme,content and artistic pursuit of opera in the early Republic of China,especially Mei Lanfang and Cheng Yanqiu. |
