The modernization of Chinese society is a grand research proposition.Rural social changes,as an important part of the transformation of the traditional feudal empire to a modern nation-state,have also triggered various thinking and interpretation.This paper takes the modern Huizhou as a case and explores the complex relationship between the genealogy media change and the gentry social network.This paper will use text analysis,case analysis,comparative analysis and field investigation to explain the following four key issues: First,what kind of text structure does the genealogy media have,how to expand the ritual system and cultural network associated with the text,and how to obtain the "sanctity" and "mystery" behind it? Second,why did the Huizhou genealogy in the process of modernization be placed in the center of the field of public opinion,and how did the people from all sides in Huizhou encounter and accept the "modern times" ? Third,in the face of modern times,what are the specific aspects of Huizhou genealogy media reform?Fourth,what kind of action mechanism did the gentry group take to deal with the "doubts of modern times" ?The study found that the order disorder and memory fracture brought by "Xiantong Bingxian" caused the crisis consciousness within the Huizhou clan.At the same time,the new ideas from Shanghai also let the legitimacy of the gentry group encounter unprecedented challenges.It is imperative to take the opportunity to compile the genealogy to rebuild the "local memory system" and to revitalize the ethical order of the clan.Although the Huizhou clan after the war of annihilation,but the gentry group is still to "destiny" to pay all kinds of perseverance.With the lack of material conditions,the ideological impact of the group may make the group feel worried about the world and return to the traditional discourse resources to seek the "ways of salvation" in groups.However,after the succession of the Republic of China,a series of inquiries from the new knowledge group made the gentry group feel the weakness and embarrassment of the traditional discourse,and how to deal well handle the relationship with the new regime became a top priority.Therefore,the gentry group in the late stage often changed its attitude from the previous generations and took the initiative to "make the new meaning" to seek coupling with the new society.Studies believe that in this process,the "mystery" of the traditional genealogy was deconstructed,the discourse resources of "divine" shifted from Confucianism to Nationalism,and the invention of Familism,the introduction of national consciousness and the microchange of female concepts all gave rise to new discourse logic and value orientation.Of course,the replacement of the old and the new is not happen overnight.Whether it is the implicit communication of "Bi Jie Zhoujun" or the explicit change of "vision downward" all reveal that the gentry and gentry social network still remains active and innovative,and also reflects the extreme importance of "cultural intermediary" in the occasion of modern local social reform.In this sense,this genealogy media change activity may be regarded as a local "enlightenment" movement.
