In the paintings of the four periods in ancient times,there is no lack of the expression of the theme of snow scenery and cold forest,whose ethereal and desolate scene often makes the viewer immersed in the state of calm and peaceful forgetting the secularity and embracing detachment.The method of “leave blank as snow” is the most prominent way to express the snow-covered landscape in the paintings of snow scenery and cold forest in the past dynasties.The “Snow Bamboo Figure” is a masterpiece of Xu Xi in the Tang and Five Dynasties,which embodies the unity of objects and feelings,scenery and thoughts,and provides a very broad space for learning the creation of the current snow landscape painting.It is undeniable that the“Snow Bamboo Figure” has an irreplaceable unique position in the history of Chinese flower and bird painting.This article attempts to analyze the “Snow Bamboo Figure”from the perspectives of artistic conception,composition,brush and ink,physic characteristics and vitality,and combining the related theory of art works and typical case of snow flower and-bird painting,in order to gain a profound understanding of the artistic features of ancient snow landscape paintings,and the different manifestations of “leave blank as snow ”method,which can be used for reference and inspiration for my own painting creation.
