Appropriation in artistic creation originated from the expression of ancient Greek imitation theory.With the evolution of art history,the images in history have become more and more abundant,and classic images have the value of transcendence: one can be used by historians as evidence for historical research;second,they can be used and referenced by artists in their creations,The creation of a period of time explores cultural changes,reflects on tradition,and criticizes reality and other creative contexts.In the image age,art creation based on well-known images can not only bring readable works to more general audiences,but also inspire new meaning generation and reflection and review of history.Since then,image appropriation has become an important technique for artists to fugue with old images.Neo Rauch is a representative East German artist who grew up during the fall of the Berlin Wall.The turbulent social environment has brought him a change of vision and values.His works frequently appear in the appropriation and collision of very different images.The viewer brings a different visual experience.This article uses Neo Rauch as a case to study the image appropriation: examine the source of the mirror and clarify the concept of image appropriation;comb through the iconographic literature and historical materials of German culture to explain the artist from the perspective of visual culture The causes of misappropriation,to analyze the connotation of the artist's works at various stages;dialectical categories,to classify and attribute the image elements misappropriated in his works.Through the combing of the above research,it can make up for the lack of volume and precision in the special research on Rauch's creative techniques in China,and provide a useful reference for contemporary artist case studies.
