Emotion regulation has developed distraction strategies,cognitive reappraisal strategies,dampening and other emotion regulation strategies.Emotion regulation has a great impact on the individual’s physical and mental health.Whether it can properly choose and use emotion regulation is an important part of depression.In addition,appropriate emotion regulation strategies have a great contribution to mental health.At the same time,in addition to Western emotion regulation strategies,the strategy of "mutural restriction of emotion " proposed in traditional Chinese medicine can also regulate improper emotions.The strategy of " mutural restriction of emotion " makes use of the relationship between emotions,using one emotion to overcome another emotion,temporarily stimulating certain emotions to check and balance another kind of extreme and unbalanced emotions,so as to achieve the effect of alleviating emotional reactions and behaviors.Sadness is a common negative emotion experience and one of the main manifestations of depression.Rosenberg believes that emotions can be divided into trait feeling and state emotion.Trait feeling is a relatively stable,lasting,and implicit subjective experience;state emotion is an instant,impulsive,and explicit subjective experience.Therefore,to explore the effect of emotion regulation strategies on sadness,different strategies for state sadness and mood sadness(depressive mood)need to be explored separately,which can not only help healthy people quickly and effectively recover from negative emotions in life,but also It can also prevent individuals who are in mood grief from developing into a more serious state.This study puts forward the theoretical assumptions of joint strategies,and explores the improvement effects of joy overcoming sadness strategy,distraction strategy,cognitive reappraisal strategy,joy-cognition strategy,and distractioncognition strategy on sadness.Experiment 1 recruited 90 college students as available participants who have no depressive tendency.The participants were randomly divided into 3 groups(joy-reappraisal strategy/distraction-reappraisal strategy/cognitive reappraisal strategy).The experiment design between the subjects,combined with the subjects’ self-reports and the physiological feedback indicators measured by the physiological multi-conductor instrument,verifies that different emotion regulation strategy can regulate the state of sadness of the non-depressive people.Experiment 2recruited 84 college students who have depressive tendency.They were randomly divided into 3 groups(joy-reappraisal strategy/distraction-reappraisal strategy/cognitive reappraisal strategy).The experiment design between the subjects,combined with the subjects’ self-reports and the physiological feedback indicators measured by the physiological multi-conductor instrument,verifies that different emotion regulation strategies can regulate mood sadness of people with depression tendency.Based on the results of Experiment 1 and Experiment 2,the study found that the regulating effect of different emotion regulation strategies on sadness emotions is significantly different in the factor of whether the subjects are depressed or not.The conclusions of this study are as follows:Strategies of liking to overcome sadness,distraction strategies,cognitive reassessment strategies,and joint strategies can all effectively reduce sadness,but there are differences in whether the subjects are depressed or not and gender factors:(1)Joy overcoming sadness strategy or the joy-reappraisal combined strategy are better for the participants have no depressive tendency and the female.(2)The participants have depressive tendency had better use distraction strategy or distraction-reappraisal combined strategy to regulate sadness better.The sadness was significantly reduced,but positive emotions were also significantly reduced.(3)The joy-reappraisal strategy and the distraction-reappraisal strategy are better than individually use cognitive reappraisal strategy in regulating sadness.This study uses a combination of self-reporting and physiological feedback to explore the appropriate emotion regulation strategies for depressive and non-depressive subjects.The study also verified the availability of joy overcoming sadness strategy,which based on Chinese traditional medicine.The effectiveness and suitability of the strategy to regulate sad emotions has improved the emotion regulation strategy and laid the foundation for further research on emotion regulation strategies in the future.
