Intertextuality theory generalizes and reveals a complex and widespread literary phenomenon,which not only reveals the foundation of literature and culture,but also makes the works in intertextuality have far-reaching significance in the process of exploring and interpreting.Intertextuality and postmodernity have become the focus of literary criticism in recent years,and many experts are scrambling to define and distinguish them,and many postmodern writers have emerged who flexibly use intertextuality writing methods.English writer William Golding is a shining star in the20 th century English literary circle.He won the 1983 Nobel Prize for literature with his masterpiece Lord of the Flies,and then he wrote the The Inheritors,Pincher Martin,Darkness Visible and other important works,which made great literary achievements in the creation of novels.The exploration of the dark side of human nature is a consistent theme of William Golding 's writing.Because of his unique writing style and profound and meaningful thought content,William Golding is famous in the world literary circle and has been widely concerned and loved by readers and critics all over the world."Intertextuality" is one of the most notable features of William Golding 's novels.By analyzing domestic and foreign scholars in recent decades on the research of the works of William Golding,can be found,they mainly focus on the theme of the works of William Golding,especially the theme of evil,to its artistic characteristics at the same time,creative thinking,artistic technique,the character of narrative and the comparative study of literary works,there are more research.Among them,the research of the works mainly focuses on Lord of the flies,and relatively few other works are involved.Therefore,based on the existing research,this paper focuses on the problem of intertextuality and selects several representative novels of William Golding for text analysis and research.Mainly through the close reading of the text,the author compares and analyzes the openness and mutual referential nature in these novels,and focuses on the exploration of the author's method of establishing the intertextuality within the texts he created,as well as the intertextuality between these works and other classical texts in the history of literature.This paper not only gets through the inner vein of William Golding 's works,but also greatly expands the world and research scope of his works by means of leaping text study.This paper is divided into four parts,the first part mainly introduces the origin and changes of the intertextuality theory,as well as Chinese and western research status quo of the theory,and the novel at home and abroad in recent decades to William Golding intertextuality research results are classified and summarized,at the same time,this paper expounds the research background and research significance of this paper.The second,third and fourth parts are the central contents of the thesis.The second part analyzes the self-text intertextuality of Golding's novels from the aspects of character image and main idea of his works,analyzes the referential relationship of his text occurrence,as well as the expressive meaning and narrative function.The third part mainly analyzes the intertextuality of Golding's novels,mainly analyzes the inheritance and development of Golding's novels to traditional literature,as well as the adaptation and imitation of classical texts.The fourth part analyzes the intertextuality of Goldin's works and its application.The conclusion,which mainly summarizes the intertextuality features of William Golding's novels and the value and significance of the study of intertextuality.Finally,it is concluded that William Golding's works basically continue the literary style of the 19 th century,with a strong sense of critical realism.Although the subject matter is dark and evil,the novel also expresses the dark optimism that is the most striking feature of William Golding's early novels.By applying the theory of intertextuality to William Golding's novels,we can not only dig out more intertextuality,help readers to understand the theme of the novels and interpret the characters,but also deepen their understanding of the aesthetic value and social value of the novels.
