Research On Singing Techniques Of Funk Style Songs

Stevie Wonder has been one of the most successful black musicians in the history of American popular music,and the 1970 s is one of the most representative periods in the evolution of his funk music.This dissertation selects Wonder's 'Superstition' and 'I Wish' as the subjects for a study of the vocal aspects.The dissertation first examines Wonder's indissoluble bond with music since childhood,and then investigates how Wonder's style of funk singing differs from that of James Brown,who is also a famous funk singer.Step by step,this dissertation analyses the most representative singing techniques of funk music using a sequence of orchestration,then instrumental rhythms and melodies,and finally singing techniques.By means of audio analysis,video observation and score analysis,this dissertation draws the following conclusions: funk is an important style in stylized singing,and Steve Wonder's ‘I Wish' and ‘Superstition' have the representative characteristics of funk singing,thus having important reference value for learning stylized singing.
