A Textual Research On The English Translation Of "Sports"

The English translation of the Chinese word Tiyu contains many versions as common existing problems at home and abroad.The confusion of English translation will not only hinder the international exchange of sports,but also affect the development of sports research and sport industry.The English translation of Tiyu has always been a controversial academic topic.The root of the confusion is mainly caused by the diversification of sports concepts,the lack of unified standards for the English translation of Tiyu and the evolution of sports connotation and value.The diversification of sports concepts is mainly caused by the origin and evolution of sports concepts,the changes in the meaning and value of sports concepts.The inconsistency of the English translation of Tiyu is mainly due to the diversification of the English translation of Tiyu and the lack of translation standards.At present,the English translation of the word Tiyu has more than a dozen translation methods,including Physical Education(or PE),Sport,Gymnastics,Athletics,Sports,Sport-Athletic,Physical Recreation,Physical Culture,Physical Training,Movement,Athletic Training,and Physical Exercise and so on.There is no unified standard for its English translation,and even some people put forward Tiyu as the general concept of sports in China.Since the 21 st century,various functions of sports are fully displayed.With the continuous development of various forms of sports activities in the society,new concepts related to sports are emerging,and existing concepts are constantly updated.The use of the terms P.E.and sport has also changed,which leads to the constant changes in the connotation and value.Therefore,the research on the English translation of Tiyu in this paper will help to eliminate the confusion in its use,promote the development of sports research and sports industry,and strengthen the foreign exchange of sports in China.This paper analyzes the causes of the confusion in sports English translation by means of comparative analysis and statistical analysis.Through statistical analysis,it puts forward countermeasures and suggestions to change the confusion in the English translation of Tiyu in China,hoping to help standardize the English translation of Tiyu in China.The specific research contents are as follows:(1)At present,the confusion in the English translation of Tiyu in China is mainly P.E.and sport.Through sorting out the two words,we can know that P.E.belongs to the field of education,and the primary task is physical education,but Sport belongs to the field of entertainment,which refers to competitive and targeted sports.Therefore,combing and clarifying it will help us to have an accurate understanding of P.E and sport.(2)Through the analysis and research on the use of P.E.and Sport in sports colleges and universities,academic fields and media at home and abroad,it can be found that P.E.is mainly used in the English translation of sports in the department of comprehensive,and Sport is mainly used for the name of professional sports colleges and universities,and Sport is more frequently used in media reports than physical education.When translating the word Tiyu,we should analyze the connotation and value of Tiyu in different fields.(3)Through the analysis of the English translation of the combination words of Tiyu in the standardized technical lexicon of Chinese characteristics and the core journals of sports,it can be found that some combination words of Tiyu have the phenomenon of translation errors or inaccuracies,and polysemy is more obvious,and the existing terms of Tiyu combination words are less.Based on the analysis of the existing problems in the translation of Tiyu,this paper puts forward the following suggestions for the study,which mainly include:(1)establishing the standard of Tiyu terms,standardizing the translation of names,(2)establishing the terminology database of Tiyu.
