The 7th CISM Military World Games is a comprehensive international military sports event hosted by China for the first time,which is also the largest international sports event to be held after the Beijing Olympics.Through games,the spirit of Chinese military shall be transmitted to the world,the traditional Chinese culture will be fully displayed,and the image of a great power will be spread on the international stage.Military World Games was founded to commemorate peace and held to spread friendship.It has become a significant platform for military of different countries to present themselves,boost friendship and expand their influence.Known as the “Olympics for the military”,the Games has attracted global attention and interests.The successful host of Military World Games and facilitation for diverse culture exchanges are inseparable from the Chinese-English translation for global communication.As a unique international platform for sports events and cross-cultural communication,the C-E Translation for global communication of Military World Games carries the responsibility for cross-cultural communication,multiple text functions.And the social function of foreign propaganda translation is consistent with the definition of translation in functionalist translation theory.Those contents have high significance and value for both research and studying reference.Guided by functionalist translation theory,this paper studies the types of texts translated and classified by Wuhan Military World Games,and itemize the text features.Through case analysis,the problems in the translation of C-E Translation for global communication is listed,and the corresponding translation strategies are offered.In the end,the translation strategy of Military World Games should be considered and analyzed from the three aspects,which are text function,cultural differences and the types of audience.It should be based on the needs and the place of communication for audience of different types.For cultural differences,adopt appropriate translation strategies with a view of improving understanding and readability of the text.Thus,make the text function in the corresponding communication environment truly reflects.The paper consists by three regions: introduction,main body and conclusion.The introduction summarizes the purpose of research the significance of the study.The main body is divided into four chapters: Chapter 1,first introduces functionalist translation theory.The second chapter uses functionalist translation theory to study the text types and translation strategies of Wuhan Military Games overseas-targeted publicity translation.Text analysis in translation form functionalist translation theory classifies the text into informational text,expressive text,and operational text.The third chapter is divided into three sections.The first section analyzes the translation of Chinese to English,when Chinese is the original language of publicity translation text.It is characterized by proper names of Wuhan Military World Games,fashionable vocabulary with distinctive characteristics from Chinese military culture,and proverbs of the military theme,and contains rhetoric figure in Chinese.The second section,through case analysis,cite examples of mistakes in publicity translation.According text analysis in translation form functionalist translation theory,we find that there are obvious errors such as inconsistent translation names,grammatical and spelling errors,cultural differences and pragmatic errors,and Chinese-English expressions.The third section analyzes the publicity text when English is the original language.By analyzing the sender's intention,communication motivation and text function,it is found that there are differences in extra-textual factors in foreign media.And analyze the inter-textual factors of publicity text in the source language of English.Compared with the extra-textual factors of the Chinese language in the source language,it is found that on the official website of the Military World Games ' website has reported positively on the Wuhan Military World Games.The inter-textual factors are consistent with the in the source language from both Chinese and English.The final part is the conclusion,this paper proposes a feasible translation strategy for the problems in C-E translation for global communication.It also provides reference suggestions from three aspects of different text functions,reader types,and cultural differences.The translation and interpretation of the Wuhan Military Games is very important to convey and present the style of Chinese Military,publicize the national image and national spirit,and promote cultural exchanges.
