The Semantic field theory is an important research achievement of modern semantics,which breaks through the traditional isolated vocabulary research method.It advocates that the semantic field should be built according to the common characteristics of words.The combination and aggregation relations of words should be used to carry out teaching.Chinese vocabulary teaching based on semantic field theory takes “field” as the vocabulary teaching unit,which plays a positive role in enlarging vocabulary,discrimination of synonyms and word collocation.This vocabulary teaching method can help learners establish the relationship between new and old words and form a vocabulary network system.These words can be stored in the brain in the form of a network.Therefore,it can improve learners' memorization level and language communication ability.This paper took the second-year EP students of Buriram Huakhiao School in Thailand as the teaching object and applied the semantic field theory to the primary stage of Chinese vocabulary teaching.The author used the methods of summary induction and chart to sort out and classify the new words in the textbook.These words were classified into five common types of semantic field.The two units “Shopping theme” and “School Life theme” were selected to summarize the teaching process and teaching requirements of Chinese vocabulary in the form of cases.According to students' interview feedback and final exam results,the writer evaluated the effect of vocabulary teaching based on semantic field,summarized the advantages and disadvantages of vocabulary teaching,and further put forward vocabulary teaching principles and teaching suggestions.The research of this paper adopted the way of combining theory with practice,which made up for the deficiency of the practical research of vocabulary teaching in semantic field.In addition,it provided ideas for vocabulary teaching for overseas teachers.
