Vocabulary teaching and learning had been ignored until the second half of the last century when researchers and teachers at home and abroad began to realize the importance of vocabulary in English teaching and learning. Since then many aspects of this field have been studied in different ways, among which the theory of semantic field, first proposed by J. Tries, has challenged the traditional word-by-word approach in vocabulary study and is gaining an increasing interest. According to semantic field theory, words are related, which form a complete vocabulary system. Therefore, in the semantic field presentation mode, words are presented in a certain concept to form a certain semantic field so that we can acquire vocabulary more easily and precisely by analyzing and comparing the semantic relationship between words. This thesis is meant to study the effect of semantic field theory on vocabulary teaching to vocational school students, an area that has been relatively neglected. Tests and interview were taken to study the question concerning the effect of semantic field approach on English vocabulary teaching and learning. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of semantic field approach on vocational school students'vocabulary learning. To achieve this aim, both quantitative and qualitative research methodology was employed, hoping to giving you some illumination in vocabulary learning and teaching.
