At the new edition The General High School Biology Curriculum Standards,students should be encouraged to fully understand and apply important biological concepts,and to develop core literacy in Biology.Based on POE(Predict-Observe-Explian),can help students understand concepts,this study attempts to apply POE into biology concepts teaching at high school.And this study aims to provide a reference for the research on the application of POE in practice by analyzing the practical effects of POE in the process.The study includes,the current situation of research on POE and concept teaching at home and abroad being organized through literature research,then the connotation and theoretical basis of them being clarified.Secondly,to know the current situation of high school biology concepts lessons,by virtue of questionnaire and interviewing,the conclusions came to that students' understanding and mastery of concepts are needed to be improved,teachers' attention on that and related knowledge also needed to be strengthened,but those being interviewed all believed that it is feasible to apply POE to the lessons on high school.Subsequently,the concepts applicable to POE were sorted out and screened out.Taking the module Molecules and Cells as an example,the study strove to provide reference for teachers to implement POE in teaching activities,and to summarize the general principles of POE and improve the teaching links of it.Therefore,a teaching case of biology concept teaching at high school based on POE was designed and practically studied.Two classes with no significant differences in monthly examination grades were screened to carry out differentiated teaching based on POE,and the students' conceptual comprehension levels of the two classes were post-tested with self-made instant questions,and it was found that the students in the experimental class had improved their conceptual comprehension levels in terms of understanding,mastery and application compared with the regular class.Meanwhile,for the investigation about students' interests on biology learning,scientific thinking and inquiry ability,and concept mastery and application in the two classes before and after teaching,it showed that POE could improve students' scientific thinking and inquiry ability,and also students' understanding and application of concepts.In summary,it can be concluded that POE in Biology concepts teaching at high school would help improve students' theoretical construction and core literacy.The results of this study may further provide teachers with instructional designs on POE as well as corresponding operational methods.
