The Mathematics Curriculum Standard(2011)edition of Compulsory Education defines ten core vocabulary of basic mathematics education,among which symbol consciousness is an important form of mathematical language expression and mathematical effective thinking,which can help students understand symbols deeply.In Mathematics Education,we should attach importance to the development of students' consciousness of mathematical symbols.Taking 324 students of grade 5 and Grade 6 in primary schools in rural areas of Yunnan Province as research objects,the methods of questionnaire survey,interview,Literature Research and case study are used.The research focuses on the following three issues: first,the general situation of the mathematics symbol consciousness of the upper grade students in rural primary schools and whether there is any difference between them and grade,sex and school education,and whether there is a correlation between them and the students ' mathematics achievement? Second,whether the senior teachers in rural primary schools can consciously cultivate students' awareness of mathematical symbols in their teaching practice,and what is the teaching effect?Third,how to train the countryside primary school senior grade student ' s mathematics symbol consciousness accomplishment?The main conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)overall,the overall level of mathematical symbol awareness of students in rural areas is not high,lower than the average level in theory.From the perspective of grade,the level of mathematical symbol awareness of the senior students in general is obviously higher than that of the junior students;from the perspective of gender,there is no significant difference between the scores of boys and girls in the test of mathematical symbol awareness,and the gender factor has no effect on the students' symbol awareness,there is no significant difference among the four schools,and there is a positive correlation between the students ' mathematical symbol awareness and their academic achievement.(2)Through the case can be found,we can find that the teacher has purposefully guided and consciously cultivated the students' symbolic consciousness,which is embodied in abstracting out mathematical problems in the situation close to the students' life,it is effective to guide the students to find the quantitative relation and deal with the mathematical problems.At the same time,there are some problems that need to be dealt with by making corresponding mathematical strategies.(3)only the joint efforts of school,parents,teachers and students can really improve students' consciousness of mathematical symbols.
