Wireless sensor networks(WSN)are widely used in many fields,however,due to its characteristics such as bandwidth limitations,limited battery power,and dynamic topology,they are vulnerable to a series of security attacks,and wormhole attack occurs frequently.A wormhole attacker makes nodes that are not in communication with each other establish a fake neighbor relationship and thereby disrupt network normal abilities.How to effectively detect wormhole attacks and delete the fake neighbor relationship in the network are urgent problems to be solved in the application process of wireless sensor networks.Given the above problems,this paper proposes a WSN wormhole detection algorithm based on time delay and hops count analysis.The algorithm mainly includes two stages:suspicious link discrimination and wormhole detection.In the suspicious link discrimination stage,the time delay between neighbor nodes is supposed to compare with the time threshold,and the link will be set as the suspicious link if the time delay is greater.In the wormhole detection stage,the common neighbors between suspicious links need to find an alternate path to the target node.If the hop count of the alternate path is greater than the wormhole threshold,it proves that there exists a wormhole attack in the network and the suspicious link is a fake link.The neighbor relationship of the node needs to be deleted from the neighbor list.Otherwise,the suspicious link is legitimate.This paper analyzes the proposed WSN wormhole detection algorithm theoretically and the experimental verification is carried out on the MATLAB simulation platform.The experimental results show that the detection algorithm proposed in this paper not only has a higher true positive rate and a lower false positive rate but also has lower network consumption.
