Research On The Knowledge Report Of Modern Geology Science In The Eastern Miscellany

The Eastern Miscellany was founded in March 1904 at the end of the Qing Dynasty and finally in December 1948.During this period,it went through four times of suspension and adjustment.Du Yaquan,Hu Yuzhi and other chief editors successively,published a total of 44 volumes and 819 issues in 45 years.With the motto "Enlighten the People and connect East Asia" as its first issue,it is a large journal with the most far-reaching influence in modern China and is known as "century-old Journal" and "a masterpiece handed down from generation to generation".The Eastern Miscellany always keeps close to the pulse of The Times and records the development process of modern Chinese history in a practical way.It is a magazine of great significance and rich historical value.In the late 19 th century and early20 th century,it played a driving role in promoting the spread of western modern geological science in China.This paper takes the geological articles published in The Eastern Miscellany from 1904 to 1948 as the research object,and focuses on sorting out and analyzing all the geological related articles published,so as to study the historical background of the introduction of modern geological science into China.According to the purpose and column setting of Oriental Magazine,geological science articles can be divided into three periods,namely,germination period(1904-1911),maturity period(1912-1943)and decline period(1943-1948).Secondly,in terms of the specific analysis of its content,this paper,based on the development process and evolution of geology(namely static geology,dynamic geology and historical geology),makes a specific analysis of the articles published with the related knowledge of mineralogy,petrology,paleontology,geomorphology,glaciology,or Marine geology.On the one hand,it focuses on some columns that publish geological articles,On the other hand,it introduces the authors who disseminate geological knowledge,such as Weng Wenhao,Xie Jiarong and Liang Zongding.It is because of the continuous writing of these authors that the knowledge of geological science is spread in China.Then,the author analyzes the characteristics of geological science knowledge communication of The Eastern Miscellany,and finds that the characteristics of professional popularity,complementary graphic content,and communication content close to people’s life make the geological science knowledge of The Eastern Miscellany spread smoothly in China.The last part of the article is the analysis and introduction of the significance and value of geological science knowledge communication.With the help of The Eastern Miscellany,it promoted the spread and popularization of modern geology in China,and promoted the standardization of modern geology education in China.The Eastern Miscellany,as a witness of the introduction of western modern geological science into China,plays a great role in promoting the development of Chinese modern geological science.To study the geological communication of The Eastern Miscellany is of great significance to further explore the communication of natural sciences in China,so as to grasp the context and trend of the communication and development of modern geology in China and explore the characteristics and influence of the communication of geological sciences in China.
