Practical Research On Visual Elements Of Punakawan Puppets In Modern Fashion Design

Fashion is an aesthetic expression that is popular in a certain time or region and in a certain context.Fashion mainly refers to clothing,footwear,lifestyle,accessories,makeup,hairstyles and body proportions.Clothing is one of the most common and frequently encountered forms of fashion.Clothing is an expression of identity,expressing qualities in personality and sociality and reflecting one’s self.Therefore,to create a new clothing in a modern form,the design concept is: free style,concise and lively,combining traditional and modern ideas,hoping to become one of the fashion styles for fashion lovers.The traditional Punakhawan puppet art concept was chosen to express a modern fashion design,preserving and protecting the local culture in a professional manner.Punakhawan puppets are one of the traditional Indonesian arts.Punakhawan is a group of wayang performances,consisting of four figures,Semar,Gareng,Petruk and Bagong.In this study,the research method used was mainly the literature collection method.The primary literature comes from various studies related to the history,changes and applied forms of punakawan.The observation process is then carried out to make it easier to figure out how to compare one form to another,using this as a basic reference to create modern clothing.In the process,think about and apply the symbolism and value of the punakawan puppet.The material is also used of great interest in it’s manifestation.Through the creative process and innovative design.Beautiful and artistic clothing designs will be produced,as well as a combination of traditional and modern clothing decoration techniques.This research process can be used as a reference source for fashion development.As well as the ability to sublimate the static traditional art into a new concept that becomes more dynamic with the development of the times,especially in the development of modern clothing design.
