Experimental drama is a new exploration of the development of Chinese drama art since the 1980 s.It heralds the new development direction of Chinese drama tradition,and together with traditional drama genres,it shapes the pattern of diverse drama art in our country.As an important visual symbol of experimental drama art,stage costumes have gone through several development stages in the development of experimental theater for more than 30 years.Through the analysis of the styles,fabrics,colors,and other elements of the representative experimental drama costumes since the 1980 s,this research finds that the pioneer drama costumes in different eras show the interweaving of traditional and modern,diversified styles and seriousness.On this basis,the factors affecting the stage costume design of experimental drama are discussed,and the influence of script elements,stage effect elements,and commercialization elements on the stage costume design of experimental drama is mainly analyzed.The research believes that experimental drama stage costumes serve the theme content,ideological theme,and character characteristics of the script,not only focusing on the exploratory and pioneering characteristics of costume design style,but also on stage effect elements.In addition,with the continuous advancement of the commercialization of experimental dramas,stage costumes have gradually incorporated popular elements and popular culture into the design process.Based on this,the article puts forward corresponding design suggestions in terms of design principles,aesthetic characteristics,style,color and material application,aiming at the development and design ideas of future experimental drama stage costumes: that is,in terms of design principles,experimental drama stage costumes,the design should be in line with the characters’ personalities and emotions,help the audience to indirectly understand the characteristics of the characters and the development of the plot in the experimental drama stage,strengthen the character modeling to stimulate the audience’s emotional resonance,and at the same time adapt to the actors’ performances.In terms of aesthetic characteristics,experimental drama stage costumes should be designed according to the theme and ideological connotation of drama scripts,and post-modern design concepts such as realism,absurd art,and stream of consciousness should be integrated and condensed to create unique experimental drama styles.In terms of style and modeling,the design of experimental stage costumes should not only focus on basic costumes but also innovate and transform them according to the requirements of the drama director and the theme of the drama.In addition,at the color and material level,the existing materials and color types should be fully utilized,and the innovative and pioneering characteristics of experimental drama costumes should be reflected as much as possible.Finally,through the practice of costume design for the experimental drama "no admittance without invitation",the research shows in detail the overall planning of stage costumes from the appearance of design inspiration to the determination of character costumes.
