As the most common retractable energy absorption component,thin-walled metal tubes have many advantages,such as superior dynamic loading performance,high performance-price ratio,easy manufacturing and installation.They are widely used in energy absorption of vehicles and other transportation tools to increasing the crashworthiness of structures.In order to improve the energy absorption level of thin-walled metal tube under lateral loading,a new nested TS thin-walled tube structure is proposed in this paper.ABAQUS finite element simulation analysis software was used to carry out the simulation of the lateral quasi-static compression process of the nested TS thin-walled tube structure.The effects of various factors on the mechanical and energy absorption characteristics of the structure were discussed by changing the geometric size,material properties and windowed.The main research contents include :(1)The paper proposes a new type of nested TS metal thin-walled tube structure,and through the method of finite element simulation analysis,the aluminum thin-walled tube,low-carbon steel thin-walled tube,aluminum nested TS thin-walled tube and low carbon steel nested TS tube are studied separately.The energy absorption characteristics of the four thin-walled tube structures under quasi-static radial loads verify the energy absorption of the nested TS thin-walled metal tube structure.On this basis,through comparative simulation analysis,compared with comprehensive mechanics and energy absorption characteristics,the aluminum shell nested steel TS thin-walled round tube structure has the best energy absorption level.(2)Through the response surface method,the Design Expert software is used to carry out the multi-objective optimization design on the geometric factors of the nested TS thin-walled metal tube structure.The geometric parameters that meet the multi-objective optimization design requirements are the smallest TS thin-walled tube radius(R)and the smallest wall thickness of the round tube shell(T),and the wall thickness of the TS thin-walled round tube near the midpoint of the domain(t).The expected value of the result is0.506,which basically meets the expected expectation,and the accuracy of the multi-objective optimization design result is verified by the ABAQUS finite element simulation analysis software.(3)Introduce the method of TS thin-walled tube through hole to compare and analyze the mechanical and energy absorption characteristics of the nested TS thin-walled metal tube structure.For the position of window,the maximum energy absorption appears at the through hole position at the center of the TS thin-walled tube in the lower position,the energy absorption in the upper center position relative to the through hole position is greater than that in the lower center position.The average load of the through hole at the upper part of the center is higher than the average load at the lower part of the center.For multiple windows and windowed shapes,selecting windows and including windows at the center position can help for reducing the maximum peak load and average crushing load of the structure,and improve the overall specific energy absorption level of the structure,which is more suitable for engineering.In conclusion,the energy absorption level and lighter weight of the windowed nested TS thin-walled metal tube structure are much better.
