| Since the reform and opening up,my country’s productive forces have developed rapidly,and major achievements have been made in economic construction.However,the disadvantages of prioritizing economic development have gradually emerged.Environmental pollution has destroyed the harmony and stability of the ecosystem,such as vegetation degradation and soil erosion.In recent years,smog and acid rain caused by air pollution are also common,endangering people’s lives,health and safety.As the environmental carrying capacity tends to the limit and biodiversity is destroyed,the yearning for a better life makes the society pay more and more attention to environmental protection and the harm caused by environmental problems.The 18 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012 included the construction of ecological civilization into the overall layout of "five in one".In 2015,the country began to implement the new environmental protection law,which put forward higher requirements for the environmental responsibility that enterprises should fulfill,and enterprises also faced greater illegal costs.In 2017,the 19 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China made it clear that we will accelerate the construction of ecological civilization and sustainable development,and strive to build a beautiful China.Economic development is inseparable from enterprises,but the business activities of enterprises are also the main source of the environment,and improving the environment is a key issue that every enterprise must consider in recent years.As a pillar industry of the country,mining has made great contributions to the country’s economic development,but also produced a lot of pollution.In the early years,"extensive" resource exploitation led to low resource utilization efficiency,and the trend of natural resource depletion was obvious.The state also put forward new requirements for the mining industry.In 2007,the China International Mining Conference put forward the concept of "green mining" for the first time.Later,the importance of building "green mines" was repeatedly emphasized.In recent years,the establishment of national-level green mines has been rapidly promoted.However,in the early days of mining enterprises,economic performance was the main goal.Even if there were some pollution prevention and control measures,most of them still reacted passively.After frequent pollution incidents,many mining enterprises began to realize the importance of environmental management,considered the applicability of the existing mining mode,and carried out more work on environmental management.The case selected in this article,Zijin Mining,is one of them.Zijin Mining,known as "Mining Moutai",has made remarkable achievements in environmental,social and corporate governance(ESG)in 2020.Its domestic and foreign companies have won many environmental protection honors.Best Mining Practices and Sustainable Enterprises”.However,in the early years,Zijin Mining mainly focused on "low-cost" mining,and the rapid development brought great disturbance to the environment.In the early years,the environmental management was insufficient and the sewage system was not up to standard,resulting in frequent environmental problems.After the "Environmental Protection Gate" incident in 2010,it had a considerable impact on the company.Afterwards,many forces pushed the company to choose a more active environmental strategy.Zijin Mining increasingly realized the key to high efficiency rather than rapid development.More management efforts are being made,and environmental strategies are shifting.Through the case study method,this paper focuses on which factors prompted Zijin Mining to choose a forward-looking environmental strategic management model that is more proactive in cognition and behavior after the “Environmental Protection”incident and the impact of the strategy on the performance of the firm.There are five parts in the full text: the first part is the research background,significance,research content and method.The second part expounds the theoretical basis and sorts out domestic and foreign literatures.The third part is the case background,including the mining industry background and company introduction of Zijin Mining.The fourth part is to analyze the development of Zijin Mining’s environmental strategy and the internal and external motivations that promote Zijin Mining’s choice of forward-looking environmental strategy and help it continue to deepen its development after“environmental protection” through cases,and study the impact of forward-looking environmental strategy on environmental performance and overall performance based on the balanced scorecard dimension.The last part draws research conclusions and enlightenments,and points out the limitations of this paper.The research results of this paper show that after choosing the forward-looking environmental strategy,Zijin Mining has made more investment in production process,system construction,management system,etc.,and also created greater comprehensive benefits.This positive environmental strategy promotes the improvement of the overall performance of the enterprise and forms a sustainable competitive advantage,which is a favorable strategic choice for the long-term and stable development of the enterprise. |
