The process of plastic electroplating can make plastic have both the advantages of metal and plastic,broadening the application field of plastic.Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene(ABS)has advantages in plastic electroplating due to its unique thermoplasticity.However,ABS itself is not conducive.It needs to go through some preprocessing(electroless plating)before it can be plated.The cost of metalizing the surface of plastic substrates by electroless plating is low,unlike traditional electroless plating,which requires the use of elements that are not only toxic but also scarce in resources,such as chromium and palladium.This paper proposes to roughen ABS with non-thermal plasma surface cleaning technology as the main body to explore the optimal roughening process conditions and the activation system suitable for roughening.Select non-thermal plasma jet treatment and non-thermal plasma constant pressure treatment to roughen the surface of ABS.The roughening method is screened and optimized by the contact angle,scanning electron microscope,and bonding force of metal coating and plastic substrate to create the best process conditions.By comparing the roughening effects of the two,it is found that the treatment effect of non-thermal plasma constant pressure is better when the treatment time is 5 min and the power is 600 W.Then,the contact angle is reduced from 117 degrees to 31 degrees,and the coating adhesion is0.94 k N/m.Select three different gases of air,acrylic gas,and oxygen to perform non-thermal plasma constant pressure treatment on ABS and screen the process conditions.By comparison,it is concluded that the roughening effect is the best in the oxygen atmosphere.The contact angle is reduced from 117 degrees to 26 degrees,and the bonding strength of the coating is 1.12 k N/m.Select copper sulfate-sodium borohydride activation system,silane coupling agent-silver nitrate activation system,and activated palladium system to activate ABS roughened by plasma.The results show that non-thermal plasma has the best activation effect on ABS after surface roughening by the silane coupling agent-silver nitrate activation system.The weight of ABS is increased by 0.65 g when the temperature is 60 degrees Celsius,the time is 20 minutes,and the p H value is 7.The appearance of the ABS sample strip after chemical plating is smooth and sound,and there is no blackening,blistering,missing plating,or falling off.The bonding strength between the coating and the substrate is strong.The addition of silver nitrate can effectively deposit supported metal particles.It can further enhance the electrical conductivity,corrosion resistance,and electroplating activation of the material surface,making the material easier for electroplating.In conclusion,the reaction conditions for roughening the surface of ABS using oxygen non-thermal plasma constant pressure treatment,followed by activation with a silane coupling agent-silver nitrate activation system,are mild.This process is safe and straightforward and will not affect the structure and performance of ABS.It not only conforms to the concept of green chemistry but also reduces the process cost,so it has good application prospects.
