As an economic and energy power,China has taken the initiative to put forward the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality commitment to reduce carbon emissions, reflecting its firm belief in reducing carbon dioxide emissions and taking proactive measures to address climate change. As a crucial part of achieving the goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, the construction industry’s total carbon emissions are always growing and showing a high trend. The reasons for this are related to the construction industry’s own industry characteristics,on the other hand, related to the lack of motivation of construction enterprises to reduce emissions and the weak initiative of practitioners to reduce emissions.Construction companies,as the main actors in the implementation of construction activities, are often directly or indirectly influenced by the intention of their personnel to reduce emissions when carrying out carbon reduction actions. However, research on the intention or behavior of construction personnel to reduce carbon emissions is relatively limited.Based on this, this paper explores the factors affecting the intentions of construction enterprises’ personnel to reduce carbon emissions and their influence paths from the perspective of micro subjects in the construction industry, aiming to provide some theoretical references for the government and construction enterprises to better promote carbon emission reduction. This paper takes construction industry personnel as the research object and constructs a structural equation hypothesis model of the factors influencing the carbon reduction intention of construction enterprise personnel by applying the Theory of Planned Behavior through extensive literature analysis. The research data were collected through the distribution of survey scales, and the data analysis software SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 26.0 were used comprehensively to fit the sample data to the theoretical model and carry out empirical analysis, specifically including the analysis of the characteristics of the sample data, common method deviation test, reliability and validity test, hypothesis test and mediating effect test, etc. The analysis concluded that the main factors affecting the intention of construction enterprise personnel to reduce carbon emissions. In addition,to further validate the empirical model, the main factors of carbon emission reduction among construction enterprises were analyzed. In addition,to further verify the stability and inter-group validity of the empirical model, and to investigate whether the final structural equation hypothesis model is applicable to different sample groups, this paper also conducts a Multi-group analysis for some categorical variables, mainly to test whether there are significant differences in their functions in terms of different enterprise nature, operating period, asset size and personnel management level. The main findings of this study are as follows:(1)the Emission Reduction Attitude,Moral Obligation and Government Supervision of construction enterprise personnel have a significant positive effect on their intention to reduce carbon emissions, with Government Supervision having the strongest effect, followed by Moral Obligation, and Emission Reduction Attitude having the least effect;(2)Moral Obligation and Emission Reduction Attitude play a chain mediating role between the paths of action of Government Supervision and carbon emission-reduction intention;(3)the relationship between Subjective Norms,Perceived Behavioral Control and intention to reduce carbon emissions is not significant, indicating that Subjective Norms and Perceived Behavioral Control cannot directly influence the intention of construction enterprise personnel to reduce carbon emissions;(4)The influence path of the SEM theoretical model in this paper has some structural invariance in the face of different sample groups with different enterprise nature, asset size and operation duration,i.e.,the influence path of each variable on the intention of construction company personnel to reduce carbon emissions is stable;(5)When dealing with respondents at different management levels, there are differences in the influence path of this SEM theoretical model,i.e.,the influence of the attitudes of middle and senior management on the intention to reduce carbon emissions is significantly greater than the influence of the attitudes of grassroots employees on the intention to reduce carbon emissions, indicating that as the respondents’ management levels become higher, the effect of their attitudes to reduce carbon emissions becomes stronger, and thus they have a higher intention to reduce carbon emissions. The research in this paper will help deepen the understanding of carbon emission reduction behavior of construction enterprise personnel, enrich and develop the research related to carbon emission reduction behavior of micro subjects in the construction industry, and provide certain theoretical suggestions to enhance the behavioral willingness of construction enterprise personnel to participate in carbon emission reduction activities.
