| The current stage of China’s economic development has entered a new phase.Promoting green transformation of economic development and enhancing the independent innovation ability of domestic enterprises is the necessary path to break resource and environmental constraints, cope with the complex international situation, and promote China’s economic development to a medium-high end level. As one of the most active, open and innovative regions in China’s economic development, improving the green innovation level of the Yangtze River Economic Belt is of great significance for promoting regional coordinated development and promoting the sustainable and healthy development of China’s economy. As the main body of innovation activities, the strength of a country’s green innovation ability is also reflected by the strength of enterprise’s green innovation ability. To encourage the improvement of enterprise’s green innovation ability, the government has introduced a variety of research and development subsidy measures to optimize the innovation environment for enterprises. However, there is no consensus among scholars on the effectiveness of government R&D subsidies on enterprise’s green innovation level. Therefore, based on relevant theories, this paper studies the impact of government R&D subsidies on enterprise’s green innovation. This paper defines the relevant concepts of government R&D subsidies and enterprise’s green innovation by elaborating on the literature on the impact of government R&D subsidies on enterprise’s green innovation.Based on sustainable development theory, signal transmission theory, and externalities theory, this paper analyzes the impact of government R&D subsidies on the level of industrial green innovation. The study focuses on large-scale industrial enterprises in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2011 to 2020.By constructing a non-expected Super-SBM model and an ML index model, this paper analyzes the trend and growth sources of industrial green innovation in the Yangtze River Economic Belt.On this basis, the random effect model is used to empirically test the impact of government R&D subsidies on green innovation of industrial enterprises. In addition, this paper divides the research objects into three regions according to different locations, and analyzes and compares the differences in the impact of government R&D subsidies on green innovation of enterprises in different locations.Furthermore, based on the differences in marketization levels, this paper analyzes the differences in the impact of government R&D subsidies on green innovation for enterprises with high, medium, and low levels of marketization. Finally, this paper empirically examines the threshold effect of government R&D subsidy input intensity on industrial enterprise’s green innovation under different enterprise sizes. The following conclusions were drawn from this study:(1)Using the static non-expectation Super-SBM model,it was found that there are significant differences in the level of industrial green innovation among regions in the Yangtze River Economic Belt.Overall, there is a decreasing trend from downstream to upstream regions, with a steady increase in the level of industrial green innovation in downstream and middle-stream regions, while upstream regions show larger fluctuations and no significant growth.(2)Using the dynamic ML index model analysis,it is found that the ML index of industrial green innovation in the Yangtze River Economic Belt is on the rise.Further index decomposition shows that green technology progress plays a major role in the improvement of the ML index of industrial green innovation.(3)Based on benchmark regression results,it was found that government R&D subsidies have a significant promoting effect on the level of industrial green innovation in the Yangtze River Economic Belt.Further heterogeneity tests revealed that the effect of government R&D subsidies on the level of industrial green innovation in the eastern region and in areas with higher marketization levels is not significant.(4)The government R & D subsidy intensity has a threshold effect on the improvement of the green innovation level of industrial enterprises.According to the size of the enterprise from small to large,it is approximately ’∽’ distributed, and the effect on medium-sized enterprises is more significant.According to the research conclusions of this paper, the development characteristics of sub-regions and the implementation of government subsidy differences are proposed.Establish a regional cooperation platform to promote the common development of technology and efficiency;establish a tracking and supervision mechanism to strengthen the supervision of subsidy funds;to coordinate the relationship between the government and the market and promote the effective allocation of resources;build an enterprise information platform and implement subsidies according to different enterprises. |
