| Building a digital China is an important engine for promoting Chinese-style modernization in the digital era.The digital economy’s promotion of green urban economic development is the key to attaining high-quality economic growth and the aspiration of "double carbon".In addition, our focus on the ecological issues caused by economic activities has reached a historic peak, due to the swift economic growth. In 2023,two sessions proposed to build a national data bureau, marking the country’s digital transition into the data-driven digital economy era.The key to resolving the clash between economic growth and the environment lies in advancing the amalgamation of green ecology and digital economy. The digital economy is a driving force of China’s reform, stimulating the growth of its agriculture, manufacturing, and service sectors, and making significant progress in both green development and technology.Green total factor productivity is the indicators of the viability of the green economy. It is interesting to think about how to influence this process and how big of an impact the digital economy has on the growth of green total factor productivity. This research investigates the direct impact, indirect impact and effects of the digital economy on green total factor production in various cities, which is based on panel data from 2011 to 2019 of 277 cities,we start with the fundamentals of the digital economy and gtfp.Employing the entropy technique and the super efficiency SBM model,Total factor productivity for the green economy and the digital economy were calculated, with the status quo and dynamic change characteristics then scrutinized.Confirming the digital economy’s ability to foster urban green total factor productivity growth,a bidirectional fixed-effect model was employed.Endogeneity analysis was conducted with the instrumental variable method and generalized moment estimation method, with special sample cities being excluded and core explanatory variables and shrink-tail treatment substituted for robustness testing. To assess the differences between the effects of the digital economy across different geographic regions, governmental levels and green innovation in the "quality" and "quantity",namely innovation quality and quantityof cities, the mediating effect model and grouping regression are used.Among the findings:(1)The digital economy’s growth has a considerable, beneficial influence on the augmentation of urban green total factor productivity and the encouragement of green transformation in Chinese cities.(2)The wide application of digital technology provides opportunities and supports for regional green innovation.By promoting an increase in urban green innovation and innovation quality and quantity, the digital economy contributes to the rise of urban green total factor production.(3)The driving role of digital economy is different. The eastern region, with its developed infrastructure, and the central city, with its higher administrative level, possess a more developed digital economy, the productivity of the green total factor is most impacted by the digital economy, especially when the digital economy is out of balance. This suggests that the "green dividend" brought by the digital economy may become more severe as the digital economy drives the green transformation of the economy.Based on the theoretical framework and the above empirical results, three suggestions are put forward:First of all,We must upgrade the digital economy’s infrastructure right now.We will hasten the building of a "digital China" in order to enhance the support for digital technologies, broaden the reach of digital technologies in various areas and cities, reduce the disparity in digital construction, supply a solid foundation for the release of digital dividends, and motivate the digital economy to take on a greater part in China’s economic shift to green and superior development.Secondly,we need to stimulate green innovation in cities. To maximize the potential of green innovation in resource utilization, allocation mode, shape new advantages of green development,in the interest of fulfilling the positive role that the digital economy’s development contributes to the urban green total factor of productivity more effectively.Thirdly,Implement the plan of regional development that is differentiated as well.Local characteristics and comparative advantages should be taken into consideration while developing differentiated development strategies, and the driving force of digital economy to promote urban green total factor productivity should be explored to expand the channels of productivity growth. The frequency of cooperation and exchange should be increased, particularly within and between regions or cities. |
