Paper is a sheet-like fiber product used for writing, printing, painting,or packaging, and China was the earliest country in the world to invent paper.Xiangzhigou Scenic Spot is located in Xinpu Bouyei people Township,Wudang District,Guiyang City,Guizhou Province.Xiangzhigou Bouyei people indigenous papermaking is a traditional folk art.The indigenous papermaking art here is one of the first Intangible cultural heritage included in the national intangible representative project list.It has existed for more than600 years. The indigenous papermaking process is extremely complex, with a total of 72 processes. What are the specific processes of Bouyei people indigenous papermaking? How did such a complex process pass down in the face of modern industrial mechanization production? This has become a key issue that needs to be addressed in this paper.Field research is an important method for Ethnology to collect the first data.In order to solve the above problems,it is necessary to go to the scene, collect data by participating in observation, investigation and interview, and systematically collect firsthand original data.It is known that this skill is not native to Xiangzhigou, but comes from soldiers from Hunan to Guizhou Tunpu during the Ming Dynasty.Later,it was gradually accepted by local Bouyei people villagers, and has become a local characteristic industry since then.On the basis of data collection, this paper adopts a holistic perspective and adheres to the research paradigm of combining theme and objectivity for comprehensive analysis. The important conditions for this skill to be inherited and spread in the local area are that there are high-quality vegetation and water resources suitable for papermaking in the local area,as well as the homesickness and memorial feelings of the soldiers in the garrison,at the same time,it is difficult to grow high-quality crops in the local barren soil, and the Bouyei people people worship bamboo, which also makes the local people gradually accept, inherit and spread this indigenous papermaking technology, which was originally a foreign handicraft skill. In the process of production for hundreds of years,a set of customary social patterns has been formed in the local area, allowing the entire village to go up the mountain to chop bamboo together in spring and help each other with paper making.Although after Xiangzhigou destroyed a large number of papermaking workshops due to the 2003 flood, many local people chose to take the Hitchhiking developed by the scenic spot to engage in tourism services, after they found a way to make a living, they still have a lofty corner left to their ancestors’ indigenous paper making skills. They are still carrying out local paper-making activities intermittently or for a long time, seeking new ways of inheritance and development. In modern society, how to inherit and develop this millennium old traditional handicraft has become a direction that locals want to explore. They have also started to try to collaborate with paper carving artists who came here, hoping to inject fresh blood into this ancestral craft.Through research,it has been found that the inheritance of this handmade papermaking technique currently relies too heavily on the subjective initiative of locals or outsiders, mostly relying on their own income in other industries to maintain family inheritance or sales. This indigenous papermaking technique is still trapped in poor rural areas and relies on the self rescue of villagers. And other traditional handicrafts in China also have similar difficulties, which we need to conduct thorough research. This research conclusion not only further strengthens the academic community’s understanding of indigenous papermaking technology, but also provides alternative reference suggestions on how to inherit indigenous papermaking.
