| Guanyin Bodhisattva flowed into the Central Plains along the Silk Road from the Eastern Han Dynasty.After Buddhism gradually became eastward,Guanyin Bodhisattva quickly spread in the monastic and secular circles,and even became the most typical image of the bodhisattva in the hearts of the people,with a vast mass base in China.This is especially true in China,a country with deep cultural heritage.The image of Guanyin Bodhisattva was also rapidly updated in this process of assimilation,and gradually formed a traditional Chinese cultural image with independent aesthetic characteristics.After entering the new era,social stability,rapid economic development,cultural soft power has also been put on the agenda.As one of the oldest forms of artistic expression,jewelry is naturally accompanied by cultural transmission attributes,with a profound traditional culture as the design basis of jewelry design,which will make this kind of jewelry have unique design advantages.With the development of the economy and the times,modern people’s demand for jewelry has begun to become diversified and personalized.Traditional Guanyin jewelry cannot meet the needs of modern people because of its similarity,so the image of Guanyin statue urgently needs to be redesigned through modern jewelry methods.The whole paper intends to take the image of Guanyin statue of Chinese Buddhism as an entry point for modern jewelry design to learn from traditional culture,first by combing the image of Guanyin statue in Han Buddhism of previous dynasties and looking for the cultural causes behind it,extracting the image characteristics of Guanyin statue in various periods,and then analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of the image of Guanyin statue in traditional jewelry and modern jewelry,discussing why modern jewelry can better show the artistic characteristics of the image of Guanyin statue in Han Buddhism from three aspects: shape,material and elements,and then starting from the social environment.This paper discusses the great advantages of the image of Guanyin in the dissemination of traditional culture,and then analyzes the existing Guanyin jewelry to introduce four methodologies for applying the image of Guanyin to modern jewelry,and finally uses these methodologies as the basis for design practice,which proves the feasibility of using the image of Guanyin in modern jewelry design,and provides a favorable basis for modern Chinese jewelry design to develop a path that can not only show the beauty of tradition but also meet the needs of contemporary human beings. |
