| Since ancient times,gold and silverware can be used as a symbol of money and wealth,but also as decorative items,decorating people’s lives while becoming a symbol of etiquette and class.Xiongnu is an ancient nomadic people who emerged from the northern region of China,living and reproducing in the desert north and south for hundreds of years,living a nomadic life of migration by water and grass.Archaeological findings have many relics and relics of Xiongnu culture,forming a regional cultural type with animal ornaments.A considerable part of them is gold and silverware,which is also the essence of Hunnic culture.Among the Hun burials where gold and silver objects were excavated,the more important ones are the Ivolga Cemetery and the Dreshtuy Cemetery in Transbaikal,Aruchaiden and Taohongbala in Hangjin Banner,Inner Mongolia,and the Xigoubian Cemetery in Junger Banner.The object selected for this thesis is a rare eagle-topped gold crown ornament excavated from the burial site of the Huns in Aruchaiden.Its stylistic style not only shows the scene of grassland life,but also reflects the cultural symbolism of Xiongnu’s worship of natural objects,which is very helpful to understand the nomadic life and ideology of Xiongnu at thattime,as well as the exchange and interaction between nomadic culture and Chinese and Western culture.Based on the archaeological excavations of Xiongnu gold and silver,this paper will explore the stylistic style of Xiongnu eagle-topped gold crown ornaments from four aspects through documentary and pictorial studies and by drawing on the research methods of history and cultural anthropology: the introductory section will elaborate on the current status of this paper,the significance of the selected topic,the research methods and the major difficulties of the study.In the first chapter,the conditions for the creation of the Huns’ eagle-crested gold crown are outlined,starting with a discussion of the inevitable connection between the geographical environment,climate,and material production and the art of gold and silver.Then,from the perspective of cultural anthropology,we discuss its cultural prerequisites,focusing on the influence of economic methods,customs and belief systems on the creation and development of the art of the Hun eagle-domed gold crown.This is followed by a brief analysis of the animal style art of the Hun eagle crown and its origins.In the second chapter,we analyze the shape,material,structure and space as well as the cultural symbolism of the Xiongnu eagle crown.Chapter 3,firstly,discusses the social function of the Xiongnu eagle-topped gold crown and summarizes its stylistic features,while analyzing the evolution process and causes of the animal style of Xiongnu gold and silver.In thefourth chapter,the openness of nomadic culture embodied in the Xiongnu eagle-topped gold crown ornament is explored,and the analysis is carried out in terms of the influence of the eagle-topped gold crown ornament on the gold and silver of other nomadic peoples,the interaction between the eagle-topped gold crown ornament and the gold and silver of the Central Plains,and the Western cultural factors in the eagle-topped gold crown ornament.This thesis attempts to explore the stylistic style of the Xiongnu eagle-topped gold crown ornaments and to understand the cultural development and changes of the Xiongnu,as well as the collision and exchange between the Middle Kingdom culture,Western culture and nomadic culture in this process,expecting to provide some valuable information for the study of Xiongnu’s stylistic art and historical and cultural research. |
