With the development of technology,the car has become the most important transportation.The developments of traditional internal combustion engine vehicle technologies greatly facilitated the travel of people’s daily life,work,accelerated the pace of life and improved the quality of life.However,with the increase of car ownership in the world,the atmosphere was damaged seriously,caused some problems of human existence.Global warming,air pollution and the rapid decline in oil resources,became the problem of primary concern.To solve these problems,the world began to actively explore new car types,a variety of new energy vehicles attended people’s attention.Currently,the worldwide development of new energy vehicles included Hybrid Electric Vehicle(HEV),Fuel Cell Vehicle(FCV)and Pure Electric Vehicle(PEV).Considering the current development of new energy vehicles,the development of pure electric vehicles was focused mostly,considered as the best choice for the future of the automotive industry.However,due to the current problem of battery technology.PEV could not achieve driving distance which people expected.Currently,a vehicle equipped with on-board extender was developed;it can extend the car’s mileage effectively when the battery power is low.This kind of vehicle is called as Range Extended Electric Vehicle(EREV).EREV is a transition product when the Pure Electric Vehicle(PEV)’s mileage cannot be guaranteed.It mainly drove by a driving motor,the main energy is electric;and the auxiliary power is fuel oil.The batteries and drive motors and auxiliary power unit APU constitutes its power system.In our modern daily life,city bus has become one of the most important transportation.With the incensement of city’s population yearly,its importance is increasingly apparent.In this study,the basic situation of EREV was overviewed and analyzed,besides,summarized its working principle and key technologies.The differences of EREV and other kinds of new energy vehicles which have same function or structure were analyzed,such as PEV and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle(PHEV).The advantages and drawbacks were summarized among the three kinds of new energy vehicles.Used a PEV as prototype vehicle,according to the development process of new energy vehicles,performance requirements of EREV and the urban transport requests of Kunming,the key components were selected and their parameters were analyzed and simulated to achieve the simulation requests of parameters matching.Based on the special structure and two kinds of operate mode,EREV switched operate mode as energy management strategy of logic threshold and used the energy management strategy combined with steady temperature way and power-energy way on the range extended operation mode.The vehicle model was built and simulated in ADVISOR 2002.With a simulation in ADVISOR 2002,the parameters of range extended electric passenger vehicle’s components matched in this paper has achieved the design requirements of vehicle power and economy performance.The fuel economy of range extended electric passenger vehicle has been greatly improved at the role of the thermostatic control strategy and the power follower control strategy.This topic is basically achieved the expectant objectives,the analysis of simulation results can be used as a reference to research the range extended electric passenger vehicle.
