Research On The Elements And Features Of Kulangsu Amoy Deco Architecture

"Amoy Deco" is an important architectural style on Kulangsu.It was mostly built by returned overseas Chinese from southern Fujian.It flourished on Kulangsu from the 1920s to the 1930s.Amoy Deco buildings combine various architectural style design elements such as Art Deco,Southern Fujian traditional style,The verandah style,etc.,forming a unique design language.Its design techniques have influenced the entire southern Fujian region and have an important position in modern southern Fujian architecture.This thesis researches on Amoy Deco buildings mainly from two levels of architectural elements and overall characteristics.First of all,this thesis selects the five types of architectural elements of Amoy Deco buildings based on the field survey data and the relevant standards of architectural style identification,and analyzes the form,material,style and other attributes of each type of architectural elements.After completing the first step of the research,this thesis combines the relevant knowledge of architectural history to find the common attributes between the various architectural elements in Amoy Deco buildings,and summarizes the overall characteristics of Amoy Deco buildings.Amoy Deco buildings are the largest existing historical buildings on Kulangsu,but the related research is still incomplete.The author hopes that this thesis can supplement related research and provide theoretical support for the protection and management of historic buildings on Kulangsu.The thesis is divided into five chapters,of which Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 are the core chapters:Chapter 1:The first chapter of the thesis is the introduction,the main content is the research background,the general situation of Kulangsu,the research content and significance,the research object,the related research summary,and the research method and technical route.Chapter 2:The second chapter of the thesis mainly analyzes the background of Amoy Deco buildings.This chapter discusses the main style types of historic buildings on Kulangsu,and sorts out the basic information about the growth,construction scale,building structure,and building types of Amoy Deco buildings in different years,and summarizes the importance of Amoy Deco buildings in the historical buildings on Kulangsu positioning and meaning.Chapter 3:The content of Chapter 3 of the thesis is mainly the selection and analysis of the architectural elements of Amoy Deco.In this chapter,based on field research,five types of architectural elements of Amoy Deco buildings have been selected:corridor elements,column elements,window elements,gatehouse elements,railings and wall elements.Chapter 4:The fourth chapter of the thesis mainly analyzes and sorts out the research results of Chapter 3 to find the common attributes between different architectural elements and different building units of Amoy Deco buildings,and determine the overall characteristics of Amoy Deco buildings.This chapter determines the four overall characteristics of Amoy Deco buildings:focusing on decoration,flexible and changeable,diversified,and innovative.Chapter 5:The content of Chapter 5 of the thesis is mainly a summary of the full text and the deficiencies and prospects of the thesis.
