Research On The Law Of Architectural Features Adapting To The Spatial Fabric Of Traditional Architectural Settlements

Traditional architectural settlements carry a complete historical memory and the continuity of the material space is well preserved.The overall appearance of them reflects the characteristics of the town's historical style,and it is also an important carrier of historical and cultural information.It has become the trend of the times to protect the traditional architectural settlements,to inherit the historical and cultural information and to apply it to the architectural design.As an important part of the spatial fabric of traditional architectural settlements,buildings reflect and affect the overall appearance of the settlements.However,there are many problems that destroy or neglect the spatial fabric of the traditional architectural settlements in the renovation design.At the research level,few scholars have studied the spatial fabric of traditional architectural settlements from a complete perspective,especially the architectural features adapted to the spatial fabric,from the architectural form and layout rules to the final building generation.At the operational level,due to the complex relationship between the local and the whole of traditional architectural settlements,there is a lack of objective evaluation criteria for whether buildings can adapt to the original spatial fabric;at the same time,there is still much room for exploration in the way of buildings generation and design based on objective evaluation criteria with respecting to the status quo;moreover,the renovative design method that neglects the status quo is further destroying the historical style of traditional architectural settlements.Under the background of renovation and renewal of traditional architectural settlements,this study taking Gunanjie Street in Dingshu Town of Yixing City as an example,deeply studies the architectural features that can adapted to the spatial fabric of settlements by means of mathematical analysis,and extracts the factors influencing the architectural forms and layout rules of the original spatial fabric.According to the extracted architectural features,the concept of homogeneity is introduced to form a set of objective criteria for evaluating and describing the spatial fabric of traditional architectural settlements,which also can be used as one of the bases for choosing renovation nodes when renovating traditional architectural settlements.At the same time,based on the objective evaluation criteria defined,a digital design tool is established on Grasshopper platform to try to generate new buildings on the plots to be repaired,which can maximize the integration of the original spatial fabric by multi-objective optimization.It is hoped that through this way,a feasible scheme can be put forward to repair and regenerate the spatial fabric of traditional architectural settlements.
