Image Interpretation: Lingnan Gardens In Export Paintings Of The Late Qing Dynasty

The The export painting of the late Qing Dynasty is an art commodity exported to Europe and the United States from the 18 th to the 19 th century.It is the carrier of social style.The derivation of export paintings was directly related to the foreign trade exchanges of Guangzhou at that time.At present,the research on export paintings focuses on the background of social production and life,and there is no complete and systematic discussion on export paintings with garden themes.Therefore,this study helps to deeply explore the historical and cultural value of garden theme export paintings in the late Qing Dynasty,prompt the specific gardening characteristics of Lingnan gardens in the Qing Dynasty through historical images,and supplement the theoretical research of Lingnan gardens.Since the gardens recorded in the export paintings have been damaged,based on the investigation of the export paintings of garden themes,combined with the historical photos of Lingnan gardens,and cross referenced with local chronicles,ancient books and Western documents,this paper carries out the research in the following steps: The first is the conjecture of garden plan;the export paintings of the late Qing Dynasty with garden themes are collected and listed relatively completely,and compared with historical documents and historical photos,which proves that the export paintings are based on objective and real gardens and have a certain degree of authenticity.On this basis,the plane schematic diagrams of some export paintings are guessed respectively,mainly based on export paintings and supplemented by historical photos and written materials.The second is the overall discussion of garden space;Based on the plane diagram of the garden,this paper analyzes the functional zoning of the garden,the positional relationship and visual connection of different spaces,and analyzes the spatial characteristics of Lingnan gardens displayed by export paintings one by one.The third is the classification of garden elements;This paper classifies and discusses the pavilions,mountains,water,plants and flowers of the gardens in the export paintings,and preliminarily discusses the characteristics of Lingnan Garden Style in the Qing Dynasty.To sum up,this paper focuses on the export painting of Lingnan Garden Theme,deeply analyzes the core elements of relevant gardens,provides a reference for Lingnan Garden examples,and discusses the Modern Lingnan cultural exchange and social and cultural changes,so as to make a modest contribution to the protection and repair of Lingnan Garden.
