As an important space for providing ecosystem services, ensuring ecological security, and improving people’s quality of life, ecological space is an issue that must be paid attention to in the process of regional economic and social development. The Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan urban agglomeration,as a comprehensive reform pilot area for the construction of a "Two-oriented society" in my country, has experienced rapid economic development in the past two decades. This study combined with land use/cover data to study the characteristics and laws of its ecological space evolution, explore the driving factors that affect its evolution. On this basis, analyze the response of habitat quality to land use changes at a multi-scale.All of this can help realize the win-win situation of ecological environment protection and economic development, which has theoretical and practical significance. In this paper, the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan urban agglomeration is taken as the research area, based on the land use/cover data, the years 2000,2005,2010,2015 and 2018 are selected as time nodes, using the GIS spatial analysis method to study the characteristics and laws of its ecological space evolution. On this basis, selecting the socio-economic factors to study the driving factors and spatial differentiation of ecological spatial evolution based on the geographically weighted regression model(GWR).At the same time, based on the land use/cover data, using the Habitat Quality module in the InVEST model to evaluate the habitat quality. Finally, based on the experimental analysis results, summarize and sort out the problems faced by the ecological space of the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan urban agglomeration and try to propose optimal control measures. The results are as follows:(1)From 2000 to 2018,the ecological space area of the Changsha-ZhuzhouXiangtan urban agglomeration continued to decrease, totaling 383.88 km2,most of which were converted into construction land. The degree of fragmentation of different types of ecological spaces gradually deepened, the landscape heterogeneity continued to increase, and the non-equilibrium distribution of ecological spaces became more and more obvious.During the study period, the migration distance of the water center of gravity was the farthest, accumulatively 15.277km,followed by woodland, and the ecological space center of the urban agglomeration gradually moved northward. The spatial dependence of the ecological space area change in the study area was mainly insignificant.(2)The study selects 14 socio-economic indicators from the four dimensions of population growth, economic scale and structure, agricultural development, and investment and consumption intensity to analyze the driving factors of ecological space evolution.Among them, the impact of urban population and GDP on the scale of ecological spaces in urban agglomerations generally shows a trend of increasing, and the spatial differentiation pattern is obvious. The second is fixed asset investment, while the total grain output and total retail sales of social consumer goods have a weak impact on the number of ecological spaces, and the spatial differentiation pattern has not changed significantly.(3)From 2000 to 2018,the habitat degradation degree of the Changsha-ZhuzhouXiangtan urban agglomeration showed a trend of "decreasing high-value areas and increasing low-value areas".And the habitat degradation grades showed two obvious circle structures in space, the first is the urban "slight degradation" as the center, showing a circle of "severe degradation-high degradation-moderate degradation-slight degradation" outward. The second is a circle of "moderate degradation-high degradation-severe degradation" from the center outwards. The spatial distribution pattern of the urban agglomeration habitat quality during the time period shows a trend of radially extending from the core areas of the three cities, but the habitat quality of the urban agglomeration has always been dominated by medium and high-grade habitats, and significant regional differences exist at the county scale.(4)At present, the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan urban agglomeration is still faced with problems such as high pressure on ecological environmental protection increasing regional differences in ecological space and habitat quality, urgent need to increase the connectivity of ecological space elements, and the ecological compensation mechanism is in its infancy.Based on the relevant theories of territorial space planning, this paper attempts to propose that we should continue to pay more attention to the construction of ecological civilization in the future, build a planning coordination mechanism, delineate "three districts and three lines",implement ecological space control, implement regional planning, strengthen ecological space protection, and improve the guarantee mechanism.
