With the development of China’s economy in a steady state,the speed of urbanization process is also increasing,the city road construction can not meet the traffic demand Road traffic congestion has been able to affect the development of a city,and to people’s lives and work caused a certain degree of confusion.However,urban roads are complex,and it is not practical to solve the problem of traffic congestion only by optimizing a single intersection or arterial system,therefore,aiming at the problem of coordinated control of traffic signal timing in urban areas,this paper will study a method of coordinated control of traffic signal timing in urban areas to solve the problem of traffic congestion.In the early stage of this paper,the principle and method of traffic signal control are fully understood through a great deal of literature research,which lays a foundation for the later case analysis,then,according to the different analysis of the vehicle driving trend,the vehicle delay is calculated,and the traffic flow entering the road network outside the road network and the traffic flow inside the road network are studied respectively,and the optimal control model is established,the objective of the optimization is to minimize the total vehicle delay at the regional intersection.Finally,the principle and characteristics of the genetic algorithm are studied to solve the regional signal control optimization model,and using Matlab software to design GUI interface to facilitate the experimental data input and output.Taking an urban area as an example,the traffic data are obtained from the field survey.Firstly,the road network is divided into control sub-areas according to the sub-area Division principle Then five intersections on the trunk line are coordinated by single-point control,green-wave control and genetic algorithm optimal control,and the results are less than the actual survey delay Vissim simulation is carried out by using the parameters of the optimized control of Genetic Algorithm,the results of the optimized control of genetic algorithm and Vissim simulation are compared,the error of delay is calculated and the feasibility of the model is verified,finally,the optimization control of the selected control sub-area is carried out by using the optimization model of area signal control,and the results show that the optimization effect of the genetic algorithm is the best,genetic Algorithm is used to solve the model,and the total delay and bicycle delay in the optimized control sub-area are obviously reduced compared with the actual survey results The results show that the method of coordinated control of traffic signal timing in urban area is effective.
