The historical and cultural heritage is both the end result of the evolution of the times and the long-term sustainable development of mankind itself as well as of today’s society, and it embodies unique values and profound connotations. In China, with the acceleration of urban construction, the conflict between urban regeneration and old buildings and sites is intensifying, reflecting the need to inherit the original history and culture of the city, while existing sites cannot be used as a medium, which puts people in a dilemma between urban regeneration and the preservation of old urban buildings and sites. At present, there are many problems with the study of cultural heritage conservation in China, the main ones being the form of its protection, the controversy over the principles of its protection, and the controversy over its moral connection with society at large.Among these studies, particularly those concerning the moral connection between cultural objects and the population have attracted a great deal of academic attention. At present,in the work of archaeologists and historians, the process of construction of sites is mostly focused on the preservation of the site itself, but not much on how to plan the spatial environment of the landscape and how to inherit and preserve its culture.Taking the concept of ’symbiosis’ as an example, the topic was selected by means of field research, questionnaire surveys and visits to grassroots managers. The analysis also identified the contradictory elements that have an impact on each other or are linked to each other. At the same time, the exploration of the urban habitat and the connotations of landscape gardening are integrated and reflected upon from a symbiotic perspective.Through the study of reciprocal and symbiotic strategies among the various elements, the study explores how to make use of the environment in which the site is located to better present and transmit the site’s history and culture in the process of conservation. The study aims to explore the artistic expression of the remains of the city walls and the scientific development of the garden space in the distribution area of the site, with a view to achieving effective conservation and rational use of the remains of the ancient city. The design study is based on the results of the research on the current state of the site and archaeological studies, and follows the principles set out in the conservation plan.On this basis, the landscape design strategy is based on a comprehensive analysis of the site itself and its surroundings, drawing on successful examples from home and abroad. In the landscape design practice, the principle of conservation is given priority, relying on technological means and adopting a de-artificial design approach that focuses on the natural beauty of the inner city wall site.In a sustainable manner, the landscape display role of the inner city ruins is fully utilised to enhance and renew the Zhengzhou Mall Ruins Park.
