| The Yangtze River Economic Belt has an incredibly important part and role in China’s economic development structure, straddling the three major regions of eastern, western and central regions of China, rich in mineral resources, water resources and other natural resources, and is the longest, most extensive and most influential golden economic belt in China. However, with the deepening of industrialization over the years, the long-term coalbased energy consumption has made the Yangtze River Economic Belt exceed its own environmental carrying capacity, and a large number of ecological and environmental problems and risks need to be solved. Therefore,in the context of low carbon economy, exploring the impact of energy consumption structure on green development can help optimize and enhance the energy consumption structure of the Yangtze River Economic Zone, improve energy utilization, coordinate environmental resources with economic development, and realize green and low-carbon development of the region.Based on the theories related to the structure of energy consumption and green development, and referring to the existing literature, this thesis examines the following aspects:firstly, the current situation of energy consumption structure and green development in the Yangtze River Economic Belt is analysed, and the energy consumption structure and green development in the eastern region of the Yangtze River Economic Belt during the study period are apparently better than those in the central and western regions, however, there are significant differences in the energy consumption structure and green development status of each province and city.Secondly, the assessment system of energy consumption structure and green development indexes was constructed, and the entity value approach was used to measure the energy consumption structure and green development level individually. It was found that the energy consumption structure and green development level of the provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Economic Zone exhibited a continuous raising trend in the decade as a whole, but there were fluctuations in individual provinces.Again, using the coupling coordination model to analyse the coupling coordination relationship between the two levels,it is found that the coupling degree of the two levels of the Yangtze River Economic Zone develops from a benign coupling state to a high coupling state, and the coupling coordination degree transitions from basic coordination to moderate coordination. Finally, through the tests of global and local spatial correlation found a distinct positive spatial correlation between the level of green development in the Yangtze River Economic Belt region, and the energy consumption structure was taken as the independent variable and spatial effects were introduced. It was found that The core explanatory variable energy consumption composition has a remarkable contribution to the level of green development and also to the level of green development in the surrounding region.Among the control variables, the level of urbanisation, energy utilisation and government intervention also play a positive role, while population density and unemployment rate play a negative role.In the end, based on the foregoing studies, this thesis proposes four recommendations to raise the percentage of clean energy consumed and the level of utilization, deepen the institutional reform in the energy sector, enhance the level of energy technology innovation and strengthen the role of regional linkage, which is expected to play a positive role in the green and coordinated development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. |
