| The Bell and Drum Tower area in Beijing is the north starting point of Beijing’s central axis,and it is the area where bungalow courtyards and traditional styles are concentrated in the functional core area of the capital.It contains the rich essence of Beijing’s urban memory.Beijing has been continuously improving the environmental quality of historical and cultural neighborhoods through organic renewal since 1990.However,in the process of neighborhood renewal,more attention is paid to the renewal of physical space,and there is a lack of reflection on the utilization of nonmaterial elements and emotional memory of neighborhoods.Nowadays,the renovation process in the Bell and Drum Tower area is facing the separation of traditional and modern memories caused by the alternating development of time and space,the decline in the quality of the spatial environment,which hinders the emotional transmission of the memory population,the impact of digital and virtual networks on the continuity of memory in the neighborhood,and the changes in the lifestyle and perception methods of the memory population,which pose new requirements for the creation of memory scenes in the Bell and Drum Tower area,The purpose of this study is to solve these difficulties in the renovation of the Bell and Drum Tower area.The research idea of this article is to study the block renewal in the Bell and Drum Tower area of Beijing from the perspective of urban memory.By analyzing the memory continuation and direction of renewal,the urban memory system in the Bell and Drum Tower area is constructed,and the strategies for memory continuation and block renewal in the Bell and Drum Tower area are obtained to promote the block renewal and urban memory continuation in the Bell and Drum Tower area.The innovation of this article is to conduct a memory continuation and block renewal analysis based on the current memory situation in the Bell and Drum Tower area,construct a dynamically renewable urban memory system in the Bell and Drum Tower area that includes material and non material memory elements,explore an update strategy that integrates the material and non material elements of the block in combination with typological theory,and apply the update strategy to the design practice of the P Protected Area of the Old Drum Tower Street to continue the urban memory of the Bell and Drum Tower area With the goal of creating a traditional and modern harmonious neighborhood life scene,the renovation practice in the Bell and Drum Tower area in Beijing is carried out in the form of restorative construction,promoting the improvement of environmental quality and the continuation of memory and emotion in the Bell and Drum Tower area.The main research content of this article is to analyze the urban memory measurement,memory spatial morphology,and current situation of the Bell and Drum Tower area in Beijing through data analysis,literature review,and field research,and obtain the direction of memory continuation and block renewal in the Bell and Drum Tower area;Investigate the current situation of memory through literature research and field research,summarize memory elements,summarize the composition,characteristics,and principles of urban memory system construction in the Bell and Drum Tower area,and construct the urban memory system in the Bell and Drum Tower area of Beijing;Through case induction and typological theory,this paper summarizes the renewal methods of historical and cultural blocks based on urban memory,obtains the renewal strategy of the Zhonggulou area based on urban memory,and applies it to the renewal practice of the old Gulou Street P Protected Area in the Zhonggulou area to solve the practical problems of urban fabric and memory continuation in the Zhonggulou area. |
