Research On The Application Of Vernacular Materials In The Design Of Rural Homestay Based On The Concept Of New Vernacular

In the context of the rapid development of towns and cities and the construction of beautiful villages,a large number of traditional rural settlements have been neglected in the construction and planning of their traditional features of construction.This disregard for local culture and vernacular materials has left many villages lacking in traditional style features and has cut back on cultural heritage.Accordingly,this paper explores the relationship between rural homestay architecture and space by analysing the use of vernacular materials in practice,starting with the concept of new vernacular.And starting from vernacular materials,the spatial design of the homestay aims to recreate the form of traditional architecture,endowing the vernacular environment,vernacular people and vernacular culture,thus forming a rural beauty full of traditional art and cultural heritage.And how to reflect vernacular materials,local culture,traditional architecture and vernacular materials in architecture and decoration in the design will be the focus of this paper’s research.The paper further analyses and studies the use of traditional vernacular materials in modern rural homestays,based on an in-depth study of the links between vernacular materials and Xiongjiajing villagers’ homestays,and further elaborates on the structural expression of vernacular materials in the architectural space of homestays,frames,walls,roofs and interior decoration through the conservation and renovation of Xiongjiajing village in Tieshan District,Huangshi City,Hubei Province.The project is a modern approach to the use of vernacular materials in the architectural space,framing,walling,roofing and interior decoration.The thesis also summarises the idea of ’locally sourced materials,locally appropriate and material-specific’ in the design of traditional rural buildings,which is characterised by ecology,appropriateness,convenience and historical continuity,allowing the design of spaces to be ’tailored to the use of materials and the best use of materials’.The thesis therefore has theoretical significance and reference value for the development and practice of rural homestay decoration.On the whole,after the study of vernacular materials and their use in rural homestays,this thesis focuses on the relationship between vernacular materials and traditional architecture and cultural features in rural homestays based on the concept of new vernacular,using vernacular materials to express the spatial context of modern rural homestays,integrating vernacular materials with appropriate design methods and modern techniques to build a modern village with the characteristics of rural homestays,traditional architecture and cultural heritage.The design approach and modern techniques are used to integrate the vernacular materials,resulting in a modern village with the characteristics of a rural hostel,traditional architecture and cultural heritage.The use of vernacular materials in the design of homestays under the New Vernacular concept can thus provide a more meaningful heritage,a more traditional architectural character and a more promising future for rural homestays.
