Research On Optimized Design Of ’Smothered Roof ’ Space In Rural Residential Buildings In Guanzhong Region

In the report of the 20 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in2022,"comprehensively promoting rural revitalization" was put forward,emphasizing the need to "build livable,business-friendly,and beautiful rural areas" and enable farmers to live a modern life in their hometowns.Against this backdrop,rural residential buildings in the Guanzhong region are constantly being updated and improved in order to achieve a shift from "quantity" to "quality."As a characteristic space that embodies the traditional ecological wisdom of Guanzhong dwellings,the smothered roof is still widely used in modern rural residential buildings in the region.It not only serves as a buffer zone for the climate but also provides more usable area for housing,and plays a role in production and daily life.It is an important part of rural residential buildings in the Guanzhong region that has been formed in response to environmental characteristics and regional culture.However,it has gradually fallen into a construction misunderstanding with the evolution of rural residential building structures,and its functionality and performance are no longer able to meet the modern high-quality production and living needs of villagers.The spatial style lacks cultural characteristics,and its current use and future development are not optimistic.To continue the regional characteristics of the Guanzhong Plain,inherit the ecological experience of Guanzhong dwellings,improve the living quality of Guanzhong villagers,and tap into the traditional construction wisdom of the smothered roof space and optimize its design,is of great significance.Based on the functional and performance problems of the smothered roof space in rural residential buildings in the Guanzhong region discovered during the investigation,this paper takes the five cities and one district of the Guanzhong Plain as the investigation scope,and the smothered roof space in rural residential buildings in the Guanzhong region as the research object.By combining literature review,type analysis,software simulation,and other research methods,the causes,types,composition,and changes of the smothered roof in the Guanzhong region were sorted out,and its current usage status was thoroughly investigated.The root contradictions behind the problem of the current usage status of the smothered roof space were analyzed,including changes in the main body of the rural population,changes in production and living styles,changes in housing psychological needs,and limitations in the individualized construction of rural residential buildings.The smothered roof space was divided into two categories: "climate-adaptive smothered roof " and "residential smothered roof ",and the climate adaptability,practicality,layout rationality,structural safety,and cultural inheritance of these two categories of smothered roof spaces in rural residential buildings in the Guanzhong region were improved and optimized comprehensively.Finally,the proposed smothered roof space optimization strategy was fully applied to two practical projects: the red brick house in Ezivillage,Xianyang City,and the homestay cluster transformation in Huyi District,Xi’an City in the Guanzhong region.The necessity and feasibility of the research were verified through the construction and feedback of the projects,with the aim of providing references and models for the construction of smothered roof spaces in rural residential buildings in the Guanzhong region of different categories.
